My response:

"Still an absolutely stupid idea to begin with, to put it lightly.

Hard to understand how it has over a hundred pages.

People should have been asking about a program that would allow people to play NDS games without an original game cartridge or flash cart.. while at the same time not being as daft as trying to emulate what already runs natively.

People could afford a 3DS but not a NDS flashcart too? Absolutely, totally stupid."

There were some threads talking about how there could never be such a thing as NDS Bootstrap and that it was "impossible" to achieve what NDS Bootstrap and twilight menu have accomplished. Perhaps thats why this method was attempted.

Ok. The guys will make sure not to feed you.

The gals will make sure, too.

It's a Nintendo DS emulator for the 3DS mode of the Nintendo 3DS. However, it has been superceded by nds-bootstrap
These seem like two entirely different applications of DS emulation. I see potential to expand upon this. NDS-Bootstrap in my opinion is just at a stage where it can't really get any better without adding on some extras or fixing some very game specific game breaking bugs.

Nds-bootstrap isn't emulation. It's using the 3DS's native DS mode to run games. 3DeSmume, however, is.

That's not true at all
We're working on DSi Support for nds-bootstrap and there are plans for WPA2 for all games, etc

Besides, it's cross compatible with the DSi and flashcarts, something we can't say for this emulator

But isn't it running in 3DS Mode? switching out of this application must be much faster this way, no?

Mmm let's see:

Faster boot time from a 3DS app = Less preformance (10-15 fps at best) and 10%-15% compatibility
Slower (not THAT badly) boot to nds mode on the 3DS = 100% speed and nearly 100% compatibility

I can't find the trade quite fair.

Here's another re-upload of 3DeSmume cia.
This one also includes a sample NDS homebrew (that def works on both formats, and both 3ds models) and also, a 3dsx build because why not.

Keep in mind the sample completes in about 5 seconds on a real DS.
It shows, rather depressingly, how far we have to go.

Note: for the cia build on old3ds, it can take up to 30 seconds after boot for the homebrew to run
Thx for Download link :3

Why would anyone use this instead of nds-bootstrap, twilightmenu and such? I mean maybe it made sense 5 years ago but now we have all those, why was this bumped?

On the bright side, I got the oportunity to try the emulator, I was abscent from the 3DS scene from mid 2016 until mid 2019, so I missed it on the day it came alive. And even though we have TM++ already, I must say I'm very impressed how far this ended.

Ik I'm a bit late, but it would be quite cool to see this emulator get under development again sometime. Ik it's currently running in interpreted mode and nds bootstrap exists, but there's stuff a ds emulator could accomplish that nds bootstrap couldn't, for example upscaling resolution. I believe there's an OpenGL implementation for the 3ds, perhaps that could be looked in to for a speedup.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
