Pokemon Crystal headed to Nintendo 3DS eShop

IMG_5978.JPG

With the successful re-release of the second generation Pokemon games onto the Nintendo 3DS eShop, the "definitive" version, Pokemon Crystal, will also be making its way to the eShop as well. It'll launch on January 26, 2018 for $9.99, and will come with Pokemon Bank compatability, so that you can bring your Pokemon all the way up to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, from every single mainline Pokemon game. For those that prefer physical releases, there will also be a boxed version that contains the game's download code within. The once impossible to access Celebii event will also be available to the western versions (without cheating) for the first time. A special limited edition Pikachu New 2DS XL will also launch the same day in Europe, while North America will get the PokeBall N2DS XL.

You mean to tell me that I've spent about almost a decade trying to glitch the Celebi event in my Pokemon Crystal cart, even so much as buying Stadium 2 and the adapter, only for this to happen?
you spent 10 years trying to get celebi?
why not just get a gameshark and force the gs ball/event trigger?

As a shiny hunter, this is amazing news since we'll be able to catch a legitimate shiny Celebi for the first time ever.
afaik it is shiny locked... the shiny sprite of celebi is considered one of the unused data on the gcs game roms

It isn't. I just caught a shiny Celebi on Crystal last week.
ok sorry I never checked if its possible with gs ball because never thought it will be available in legit gameplay... if I would need a shiny celebi I would probably do it with the coincase glitch, setting the asm myself... way more challenging and rewarding then waiting for RNGesus to do his thing

Hot damn I love crystal. May legitimately buy the physical copy of this just because I liked that game so much. I've got so many fond memories of cloning a lugia I stole from some kid for the kids at school. Spreading around glitchy merged pokemon was fun too. Nothing's more satisfying than seeing a bunch of kids confused when their hall of fame is filled with garbled data.
there is no phisical version... the thing he mentioned in op is a console with the code for DOWNLOADING the DIGITAL COPY
I really cant understand why they dont release a cartridge of pokemon gen1 and 2 for 3ds... they will get a huge ammount of money with that and its a cool thing to have for collectors

the reply of every pokemon fan or collector that's older then 15
i mean.... I guess it will anger the original fans since it is a cart but not the real thing but doesnt matter...
also you can make an empty crystal cart (3d print and put a sticker or get somewhere) and use it to store your other 3ds/ds pokemon games, I guess you will get some points for creativity or something

I mean I love pokemon and will probably get this but fuck man, is it too much to ask for SOMETHING physical? Maybe a compilation or something? I love having physical copies of the games I like, which is partly why I loathe game collectors but that's another point for another thread entirely.

Great memories with this game, I had the Gold version and a friend of mine got Crystal and then he lent it to me and I didn't want to return for anything and I hid all day not returning his phone calls and stuff so I wouldn't have to give it back (which made me feel bad and I eventually did give it back). It was weird because it was exactly like Gold and yet to 12 year old me it wasn't. To this day it's my favorite Pokemon game and maybe it's the nostalgia for the early life of a pirate thief socially disadvantaged individual, but I love it way more than vanilla Gold/Silver.

I wounder if the Japanese version will have the " online" features adapted?
Not everyone know but this was the first pokemon to have trade and battle features "online" in the Japanese version with the mobile link thing.
They even had some stadium " gold and silver" tournaments based on this but not sure how it worked XD
I was thinking it was delayed from the GS ports because they where working on this feature and restore it on the western releases but I may be wrong :v

It's hard to be excited when its release has been a foregone conclusion. For the sake of collection, I'll get it, otherwise it's the least important main series title to get right now.

Thats ok Nintendo, I'm happy that my Switch is a dust magnet at the moment. Totally wouldn't like something like this to come to my new handheld, nope, not at all.

For the 3DS VC releases of these GBC Pokemon games, are you able to use the 3DS' IR port for mystery gift like you could with the GBC's IR port for these games?
