Finaly why we shouldn't update ?
What is patched ? what work ?

This is what I am wondering. So we know that it didn't break anything, but then, why did it come out? Surely something has changed. These updates cost the company time and resources, both of which, burn energy and money. No companies likes to waste any of that, so something is up, just need to find out what.

Get ready for yet another ban-wave and the following:

POLL:
"What do you think it caused the recent ban-wave?"
- Menuhax
- Flipnote
- Hurricane Irma
- Russia
- Recent Firm Update
- Native Seed

I'd consider that a waste of space. The CIAs from 3DNUS take much less space, and have everything you need to return to an old version, should you want to. The 11.x series at this point only takes 6.5 GB. And that's with USA, EUR, and JPN versions (on both N3DS and O3DS). If I only grabbed one region and one hardware, it would be around 1.1 GB for all 7 releases. Still, it's your hard drive, not mine.

Well, they could do that in a future release. 3dbrew says that wasn't updated this time, however. The focus seems to be on playing outdated titles online (seems to be more to prevent online cheating by exploiting bugs in old versions of games than anything else, with a bit of preventing possible future online exploits on the side).

It does. There's no real reason to keep using A9LH, though. Everything that runs on A9LH also runs on B9S. I just keep it around for testing purposes at this point. But no NATIVVE_FIRM update means no CFW broken.
I got more space then I know what to do with :P

it added new error codes and blocked flipnote studio 3d from running unless you download the update

EDIT: nvm, there is a flipnote update

Big ups. Thanks for the reply. Good to know these little details. I assume this flipnote is useless if you are already on CFW anyways, as this was just another entry point, correct? Does nothing for those already on B9S and Luma.

If I had to guess it sounds like good news for 11.5 users. They prolly identified an exploit and issued a "stability" update to patch it.

I'm curious if it could be decompiled to see exactly what was "stabilized".

Has anyone checked any flash cards that still work with the 3DS? They might've patched a few

They definitely did not. Here's what changed for the N3DS and O3DS (USA list, but the EUR and JPN lists are similar). Neither "TWL_FIRM" nor "Nintendo DS Cart Whitelist" are on the list. You have to change one of those to block a DS flash cart.

It does. Anytime your console is connected to the internet data is being downloaded/sent in the background including system updates. Same reason as wehn you have spotpass on you get those automatic demo icons on your HomeMenu.

Anyway, you can go to FBI>Pending Titles and delete everything in there to get rid of the nag. It will eventually come back though unless you block the DNS servers but then you can't play online unless you change them back to automatic each time. Seems like too much work to avoid harmless update data.

Yep, of course it's not a problem for me. Luma and B9s works with 11.6, but I'm worried about a new banwave.

Honestly, I tell everyone the same thing; if you're that worried about it then go back to OFW. Otherwise the only 100% secure solution to avoid a ban is to ban yourself. You know, by not using the internet on your console at all. It's really a double-edged sword.

All of the stuff around here, including those 500+ pages on the banwave thread is all educated guess work based on what information we know is sent to Nintendo. No one, I repeat no one know exactly WHAT information collected is used to "drop the hammer"; all of it are assumptions and common sense steps to "attempt" to avoid detection.

Especially since there hasn't been another wave since all of these attempts to "hide" from Nintendo, no one even knows if it's a waste of time or not Lol. I personally have not taken any steps other than turning off "Show titles" in my friends list, and haven't changed my CFW usage practices since the original SuMo ban wave last November and I'm not banned yet; nor are many other people that continue to use CFW openly (more or less).

Honestly, I'm going to laugh my ass off in November if another banwave comes and everyone that was taking unnecessary steps to "hide" is banned as well. I'm 99% sure the banwave was like the old WoW days where they banned people they knew cheated or had modified software, people they suspected and innocent players as well; for the sole purpose of confusion. People were scrambling trying to figure out what triggered the ban and they couldn't figure it out because it seemed entirely random on purpose. The previous banwave is telling of the same type of scenario considering some were banned, some weren't, and some never even went online.

I know all of that, there's no logic to ban an user with CFW, and If I mod my 3DS, I own my risk :)
Honestly, Nintendo is joking with us, because they said that the 11.5 (or some other update) will be the last support for 3DS, btw they study every strategies to block this modding after that.
I want to say that they release a software to make a "trap". Who is supsected and didn't update, will get banned. (because they're worried about updating). Who update might got a "timerbomb" inside its 3DS. We don't know anything, just suppose!

But the 11.6 includes a new Friend List source code, for examples. That's different between 11.4-5, they may insert something in the update code..
