i have not used my 3ds in ages i have no clue how i would update reinand
i just had reinand and menuhax working and now i wanted to play samus returns but it was freezing at 3ds screen so i checked here and though it i was safe to update ,it was not now i cant boot at all i see my custom splash screens for menuhax and reinand and the boot menu selector i forgot what it is call now but rei will not boot at all
i do not rememebr how i set it up now

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

so do i just replace the rei folder on my sd with the rei folder in the zip
or do i need to also replace the reinand.dat file on the root of my card with something too?
also in the hax folder> menuhax there is a boot.3dsx file do i need to replace the boot.3dsx file on the root of my card with that one?
Yup! Just drag and drop everything in the zip! Well, don't drag and drop the hax folder. Drag the stuff for your specific use case. Also, no. Use the one with the /3ds/ folder if you still want to use the HB menu.

It uses the arm9loaderhax.bin instead of Reinand.dat! And I mean use the 3ds folder. Unless you don't use the homebrew launcher. The menuhax folder is for having ReiNand autoboot instead of the HBL. So if you want that, go ahead.

i updated the emunand to the latest FW now it won't boot

Copy over the arm9loaderhax.bin and /rei folder. Arm9loaderhax.bin is used by the new reinand.3dsx to load the CFW instead of reinand.dat. Then open up the hax folder, found in the zip file, located here: HaxLoader Fix, and copy over the /3ds folder. That has the new 3dsx. Ignore the menuhax folder. It is just there so you can boot reinand instead of the homebrew launcher. If you don't know what that means, don't bother with it.

so should i delete the reinand.dat file on sd root or not?
also guess you mean just copy the 2 files inside the 3ds folder to the 3ds folder on my car and overwrite if it asks?

no it does not work can you please explain it ************STEP BY STEP***************************
IT WON'T BOOT

here is what i did , i replaced the rei folder on the root of my sd with the rei folder from the zip
it didn't work so then i copied the arm9loaderhax.bin over to the root of the card for some reason it asked me if i wanted to overwrite the file but i have no such file with that name on the root of my card already so i don't why windows asked if i want to replace it , so i replaced it
the i copied the 2 files from zip located in >out >hax>3ds>reinand folder called ,reinand.3dsx and reinand.smdh into the 3ds folder on the root of my sd card
and it still does not boot , can you make it clear as crystal for me exactly what files i need and where i need to put them?

also i should mention that i have ctr boot manager so do i need to edit the config file for that?also i do not remember what that file is called or where to find it
i thing it is this boot.cfg file

here is what is in it

"

boot_config :
{
timeout = 2;
autobootfix = 8;
recovery = 2;
default = 0;
entries = (
{
title = "ReiNand";
path = "/reiNand.dat";
offset = "0x12000";
},
{
title = "HomeBrewMenu";
path = "/boot_hb.3dsx";
} );
};

"

should i just edit it so that " path = "/ReiNand.dat"; "

is changed to " path = "arm9loaderhax.bin"; "

?

I assume your sysNAND is fine? Why not just boot without the SD card in (so you go to sysNAND), put the card back in after the home menu shows up, then change the theme (to uninstall menuhax) then install b9s (following https://3ds.guide and also following the move emuNAND section so you get your data back). This way you will have the same set up as everyone else and future troubleshooting will be way easier.

Okay, so you are using ctrbootmanager... (This is a thing I need to know. If you need help...) Load the HBL and launch Reinand from there. That's where the new 3dsx is. That's the only way this will boot. Just switch your boot.3dsx to the Homebrew Launcher. That will make life easier for the time being. Or set your Reinand path to "/3ds/ReiNand/ReiNand.3dsx"

which boot.3sx file do i switch and which one do i switch it to?
what is the exact file path of the one i need to replace, is it on the root?
and what is the exact file path of the boot.3dsx in the zip file that i need to replace it with , i don't even see a boot.3dsx file in the zip

and are you saying that i will not be able to boot into rei from the ctr boot menu anymore? or are you just telling me to do this as a test and then we can set it up with ctr boot manager later?

the boot_hb.3dsx needs to become boot.3dsx. That's the Homebrew Launcher. (Which is what I have been telling you to use the whole time, CTRBootMenu is a pain to deal with.) There is no boot.3dsx in my release. (Unless you count the menuhax one at this point...) I told you to drag over the /3ds folder from the release. (If you haven't done this. Do so now. Please for my own sanity. Its in the hax folder which is the ONLY folder (other than /out. That one was my bad.) Both the boot.3dsx and the boot_hb.3dsx are on the root of the SD for your 3ds. This will load the homebrew launcher, from there you can launch the reinand application, which will load Reinand. If this is really too much work for you, just use the boot.3dsx file in the menuhax folder, and replace the one on the root of your SD. Now, I have to go finish some homework.

So I've been away from the net for ages. I'm guessing the latest firmware update is safe? Was too busy shiny hunting and playing DQ7 to notice the update anyways.

because i would really just like to get this working right now i need to spend a lot of time to do more research on b9s before i try and install it
It will take you about ten minutes to install b9s, this hassle really isn't worth it.

You should really stop using menuhax and upgrade to B9S. Nothing supports menuhax anymore and even the next ReiNAND will drop support for menuhax.

your posts just keep on getting more and more confusing can you please just explain it clearly for me
when you say
"the boot_hb.3dsx needs to become boot.3dsx" a what are you telling me? to rename the boot_hb.3dsx to boot.3dsx ?

"drag over the 3ds folder from the release" but i already have a 3ds folder on the root of my sd , i already copied the 2 files that were inside of the 3ds folder in the release into the 3ds folder on the root of my sd card , so is that all i needed to do for that step?

"Both the boot.3dsx and the boot_hb.3dsx are on the root of the SD for your 3ds." wait ,what?
i thought you just said or implied i needed to rename the boot_hb.3dsx to boot.3dsx ?
you are not making any sense at all

"ctrboot is pain int he ass to deal with" yea no shit i have had problem before i remember trying to update because of it

so is this really that hard to explain? which files go where and how do i edit the boot file for ctr boot manager
