Confirmed Nintendo Switch is using stock Nvidia Tegra X1, no modifications.

All is confirmed the Nintendo Switch is powered by stock Nvidia Tegra X1, same chipset used in Shield TV. The most surprising is the retention of 4 Cortex A53 processor cores, which have no use in the Nintendo switch as they can't be operated at the same time when Cortex A57 cores are running due to the ARM big.little configuration setup.

Nvidia-T210.jpg

After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

http://techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/nintendo-switch-teardown/

Nvidia Tegra X1 features
  • 8 core CPU (4 x Cortex A57 and 4 x Cortex A53)
  • GPU is a GM20B Maxell core

A comparison to Shield TV. Switch specs on the left, and Shield TV on the right. The clock speeds are reported from Eurogamer, which are very much true.

  • RAM: 4GB vs 3GB
  • CPU: 1Ghz vs. 2Ghz
  • GPU: 3 modes:307.2Mhz/384Mhz/768Mhz vs 1Ghz

Shield TV is clocked higher initially in both CPU and GPU, but don't forget Shield TV can't keep these clock speeds up for long, it throttles down to the exact switch's dock clockspeeds. Which further supports a stock X1.

I mean...aside that whatever specs it has, If it has the games, more the fun. I still haven't bought one because of this issue of not having enough titles yet.

In fact, this being a low power device will make companies rethink their mobile games and how to optimize everything they can to fit the Switch if they can. After all, the switch was marketed as both a home and mobile platform. If we have the best of both worlds who cares.

In fact, if you are looking raw power, get a PS4 and you could probably enjoy games like Horizon too. Actually I recommend getting both a PS4 and a Switch this gen because the best games are gonna be there, now that the PS4 devs started to get used to the console and are coming with lot of better looking games, and the switch is getting the Ninty exclusives.

Nintendo games and the possibility of installing Android in the future and access an even bigger game library.
Count me in!

Right. And every Sony, LG, Microsoft, Huawai, Xiaomi and Nexus phone with a Snapdragon SoC is just a rebranded Samsung phone.

That is, if Samsung still cares about Snapdragon and not about their shiny Exynos SoC

In my experience, gamers are one of the worst groups with regards to computer maintenance; their systems are often filled with malware and other garbage. Usually the best option in these cases is a full reformat.
Is this true? I am starting a computer and smartphone repair business. Are you saying I can make some serious bank off of my gamer friends?

You'll have to pry my PSP-3000 out of my cold dead hands before you get me to switch to some shitty overpriced nvidia shield with wiimotes taped to it.
nope. (could sc fb comments but cbf)

I dont know why people on here do this. It really ruins the gbatemp experience when you cant even express your views without the ad hominem attacks.
It just shows how much validity is behind their arguments when they have to go to personal attacks or resort to labelling you a "troll" or "hater" simply to devalue your criticisms. I've enjoyed Nintendo products for a lot of my life, more than I probably should have, yet apparently when I have problems with their latest console I'm a sony fanboy or I just want to ruin other peoples fun with the Switch.

with a stock tegra X1 and no custom North Bridge or custom video encoding chip this thing will be emulated way faster and better then the wii U. Might even be possible 'to some extent on the nvidia shield itself,

Emulation =/= 1-to-1 copy

Emulation requires extra resources to emulate something. What you're asking about is "porting" to Nvidia Shield.

Splatoon 2 = summer
Super Mario Oddysey = Holidays
Next Smash = dunno, at this point ut could be out in two or three years.
Xenoblade 2 = "2017" ("" because it could be delayed)
Next waifu milked emblem = meh

Oh yeah, dont forget all the indies and 1-2 switch GOTY

In short words, you will still have to wait for those games to come, and the initial 300usd price for just one game worth of playing that is also available on a last gen console is not worth a purchase imo.

How long did people who paid $400 dollars on a PS4 waited for the next god of war or gran turismo or last of us 2? ETA 4+ years

Sony even released an upgraded PS4 for those same $400 in the meantime while we, who got the fat PS4 still wait.

And yet you complain about ETA 1 year or so.

Yes you can. But split it in 2 categories, those who bought a pre build PC and have no clue how it work inside and those took take to check everything, bought every parts to optimize (or went full overkill if money is not a problem) and generally built it.

Knowing what inside of your PC generally make you more careful about it.

A simple way to check about your friends, do they clean their computer? If it breath dust, it ain't good.

haha true, native game code should run fine on an X1 once a custom shield firmware is built/released. kinda like nintendont.

I never said I hated Nintendo god I loved my Wii but Wii u was just a disaster and who knows what's going to happen with the switch I just hope they come with a revision for it asap.

Disaster in which sense exactly?

Splatoon, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Mario Maker, Mario 3D World, New Super Mario U, Paper Mario, Zelda, Fatal Frame V, SMT x FE, Kirby, Captain Toad, Yoshi's Woolly World, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros - All good titles you'd expect from a Nintendo console. I'll make this easy and skip backwards compatibility.

This is way way more than I got from Sony on my PS4 so far since its 2013 release. I'm curious as to how exactly did you think Nintendo did not deliver with the Wii U because regarding good exclusives it definitely delivered more than the competing consoles.

I'm in a minority here but... I actually liked my Wii U. I wasn't the biggest fan of the tablet, but the games (Nintendos once) were superb. Hell I even liked Captain Toad.

Yup, but at least PS4 had way more launch games and first batch came 2-3 months after. It's not because you don't like/don't want to play a game that it doesn't exist.

Sony even released an upgraded PS4 for those same $400 in the meantime while we, who got the fat PS4 still wait.
Years after, it was an upgrade, and original PS4 price went down by that time.

The Nvidia Shield tablet uses K1, not X1. So you could call it a re-branded Shield TV, but not even that would make much sense, as Shield TV isn't a portable.
Ok sorry yeah it's a Nvidia TV with a 720p LCD screen with a plastic bezel you got me!! The K1 / X1 differences are like x1.5 which means its like Wii U level now woA. If you google anything pre the switch release you'll see people shitting on tegra processors and everyone defending the switch saying it wont be running an x1 it'll be running a custom chip because they'd never sell that for upwards of $500 aud right??

In terms of actual performance Switch ends up being slightly more powerful than Wii U even in portable mode. Granted, that speaks more to how weak Wii U was than how powerful X1 is, but it's still impressive to make a portable perform at around the same level as a PS3. While docked Switch is at least 2x more powerful than Wii U.

And no offense, but if you write "gaming" on a ripped piece of paper and put it up for sale in Australia, MSRP would be $500 AUD for that too.
