Confirmed Nintendo Switch is using stock Nvidia Tegra X1, no modifications.

All is confirmed the Nintendo Switch is powered by stock Nvidia Tegra X1, same chipset used in Shield TV. The most surprising is the retention of 4 Cortex A53 processor cores, which have no use in the Nintendo switch as they can't be operated at the same time when Cortex A57 cores are running due to the ARM big.little configuration setup.

Nvidia-T210.jpg

After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

http://techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/nintendo-switch-teardown/

Nvidia Tegra X1 features
  • 8 core CPU (4 x Cortex A57 and 4 x Cortex A53)
  • GPU is a GM20B Maxell core

A comparison to Shield TV. Switch specs on the left, and Shield TV on the right. The clock speeds are reported from Eurogamer, which are very much true.

  • RAM: 4GB vs 3GB
  • CPU: 1Ghz vs. 2Ghz
  • GPU: 3 modes:307.2Mhz/384Mhz/768Mhz vs 1Ghz

Shield TV is clocked higher initially in both CPU and GPU, but don't forget Shield TV can't keep these clock speeds up for long, it throttles down to the exact switch's dock clockspeeds. Which further supports a stock X1.

Keep telling yourself that. What portable only last for 2 hours? Switch is going to flop for sure.

That's funny, I get around five hours, not sure where you go that BS from. You don't even have one.
I wonder if this is the reason Nvidia opted not to release a Shield Tablet X1. Shame that they sold out like that, and to Nintendo no less. And despite the power of the X1, Nintendo is STILL stingy about making all their games 1080p and 2160p. I hope Nvidia makes another Shield Tablet with the successor to the X1 though, that would be awesome.

We don't know that. Rather have them sell out to Nintendo than to Apple or AMD.

2160p gaming on a portable is litteraly impossible for the next 10 years. And no console yet has 2160p gaming.

Nintendo is absolutely not going to be stingy about making games 1080p, they managed to do plenty of Wii U games at that resolution. However, 2160p is not a possibility on an X1. Shield TV only does 4K video output.

Actually I just recently got an internet provider with no caps so I'm going to build a pc sometime this year. Still buying a Scorpio though. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the tegra x1 stock capable of a tflop? Not sure where everyone is getting 0.5? Must of read over something.
Has 1 teraflop at 16 fp, 500 gigaflops at 32fp, the comparison between Xbox one and ps4 are measured at 32 fp

Doesn't the PS4 have 4K now? I know the X1 powered Shield TV has 4K internal resolution, and 4K movie streaming. And if it does not have 4K game streaming, then the X1's successor will most likely have it.

Welp, there goes the whole "SAME POWER AS XBOX ONE!!" argument people keep spewing. Oh well, hopefully devs don't give up on the Switch like they did the Wii U

Not necessarily. The ARM CPUs the Switch uses is simply too weak to properly emulate most GC games regardless of how well an emulator is written. Some lower-demanding GC would probably run, but I doubt anything all that complex will be playable which would probably stop Nintendo from doing any GC VC at all.

You forget, that Nintendo could write a GC emulator which is low level. Nobody knows the GC or Switch better than Nintendo. Same situation like PSX emulation on PSP. Back then homebrew devs weren't able to create a PSX emulator for the PSP which was capable to play games at bearable speeds:

Some games are already running at fullspeed in Dolphin with the X1, so why shouldn't it be possible for Nintendo to improve that and to create an low level emulator which plays most games at fullspeed?

That would be 3 hours on average, 2.5 at max brightness, whereas you said 2 hours.

Shield TV has 4K video streaming, and that includes streaming 4K games from a PC that can handle it. PS4 might have 4K video as well, but games do not run at that resolution, they're 1080p30 with frame drops a lot of the time. Even PS4 Pro doesn't do proper 4K, it's upscaled. Probably much closer to 1440p.

Question!
In layman's terms, how powerful is this compared to the WiiU? We know that the WiiU is capable of playing GCN and Wii, but what about the Switch? Is it weaker or stronger?
Switch is marginally more powerful than Wii U as a portable, and more than 2.5x as powerful as Wii U while docked.

the psp emulated ps1 games so well because it included some ps1 components.
you can do a lot with access to that, but there are limits as to what can be done with pure emulation.

though they definitely could make one that works better than that. just probably not good enoug

lol I can't wait to see all the defects and hate on Scorpoopio when it launches... <drool>

Still enjoying my MSi 980Ti SLI. I think I'll wait for the next gen after 1080Ti, nothing has made a dent in my rig yet...

I normally don't reply to ridiculous "PC Master Race" wankery, but I'm going to have to stop you right there. Claiming that "PC gamers" have "amazing hygiene"? Have you been to *any* League of Legends tournaments? (or other popular LAN party games; LoL is the first one that comes to mind right now.)

Besides physical hygiene, there's also computer hygiene. In my experience, gamers are one of the worst groups with regards to computer maintenance; their systems are often filled with malware and other garbage. Usually the best option in these cases is a full reformat.

League of Legends runs on a toaster though, so perhaps hygiene is directly related to specs.

You mean the media engine (PSP's second CPU)? It isn't a PS1 component and was only there for proper PSX Sound emulation.
Ok, another example. The PS2 emulator of the PS3 also worked on the PS3 slim perfectly even though only the first version of the PS3 Fat had inbuilt PS2 components.
