Maplestory 3DS: The Girl of Destiny [100% ENG Patch][Release]

Please update to the latest version before reporting any bugs/crashes. Latest version says v1.03 during the game's boot.

Hey Everyone!

Today I'd like to introduce you to the English Translation of the game:
Maplestory: The Girl of Destiny (3DS):

ip3Qfyq.png

Current Progress: DONE (100% done)
We'd like to present you with the awesome release trailer made by SoyAlexPop for us:

It's out now!

We have worked hard to translate this game for the fans of the Maplestory series to enjoy. Maplestory 3DS is similar to it's PC MMO counterpart but is unique because it has a full story-line focused on an original main character named Mugi. The game features advanced mechanics like environment pieces you can use to help solve puzzles or even as weapons to defeat your foes (things like rolling boulders, lightning storm clouds, etc.).

It's a lot of fun and as fans of the game series we want to help you all to be able to enjoy it too.

The Team:
iser911 - New Lead Translator
(translated 50+% of the game).
WillTheLion - Project Coordinator, Translator & UI/GFX Text Editing
DavidKang- Translator (helped with Korean text)
Flyingsky - Text Translator and Tinkerer
Liomajor - UI/GFX Text Editing and Cut-scenes
Glitch - Text Translating + Cut-scenes
Vague Rant - Proof Reader and Script Editor

Honorable Mentions:
Sliter - Some Graphics
Truner - Logo Art
SoyAlexPop - Trailer Video
IcySon55 - Hosting the Translation Discord

Download Translation Patch v1.03 + NTR Plugin for Easy Use:

Features cleaner subtitles, Korean dubbed videos, a new banner with the actual English logo. A small bug that caused the Chief of Leafre to have blank text boxes has been fixed.

Release time! All crashes and bugs fixed. All proofread and corrected. Also we found a new way to create the .ctpk image files that greatly lowered the file size and maintained 100% quality so the patch is now has much faster load times. Here's the links to the update:

New version 1.03 NTR patch: http://www86.zippyshare.com/v/P0BGr8Ju/file.html

The crash was caused by our .ctpk taking up too much VRAM during the final boss because of how big and animated he is. He takes up lots of memory. This and all other bugs have been fixed. This in theory is the "definitive version".

Please update to the latest version before reporting any bugs/crashes.

Hello Player!

This is the v1.03 version of the game. The text has been proof-read and many bugs/crashes have been fixed
since our initial release. There shouldn't be any more crashes but please if there is a crash let us know!

IF THE GAME CRASHES: Please take note of the name of the map where you were before it crashed
as well as the portal you tried to take that caused the game to crash.
~IF you know how to use JKSM to export your save, if you'd like to export a copy of your
save file from right before where it crashed that could be helpful too.

All that having been said, we're hopeful that all bugs have been fixed, and hopefully you won't have any issues.

If you still find a crash let us know here please: https://discord.gg/xkyPhSX

If you find some broken color tags or text that goes of screen feel free to tell us what
the message said and we'll fix it quickly. Or post a screenshot that'd be even better!

Thanks again guys! We hope you have as much fun playing as we did translating this for you!

-WillTheLion

The easiest way to use the patch is to use the NTR plugin Flyingsky has made for use with the the patch and the game. Or you could always check that one iso site.

1. You need the NTR Firmware to use the layeredFS plugin
2. Install it.
(If you can't start NTR using those 2 files make sure you have tick "SysNAND is updated (A9LH-only)" in your A9LH options)
3. Then copy the plugin folder to the root of your SD card.
Copy all the changed files into a folder called "maple" on the root of your SD card.

4.Start NTR on your 3DS and start your game (cartridge or cia doesn't matter).

The maple folder uses the same folder structure as the normal romfs uses and as such can also be used inside your own romfs file if you would rather use HANS.

If you'd like to use these in your own game with HANS by dumping your own romsf folder, and then copy and pasting the files from the maple folder into your dumped/extracted romfs folder (replace the original files), and then rebuild your own romfs. Name it 00111600.romfs and put it in the 'hans' folder on the root of your sd card. Then run the game cart or cia through hans in the homebrew launcher.

Here's a good guide of how to extract and rebuild your own romfs: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-decrypt-extract-rebuild-3ds-roms.383055/

Even though we've now translated 100% of the game, we still intend to refine this to make it better. We'll also fix any bugs or crashes if any come up. Please let us know of any problems you have and we'll happily fix them.

Yes that's right!
You have to dump the rom and extract + rebuilt the romfs with the translated files yourself though.
Download the files and read the last part of the "How to use plugin.txt".

So, since SoundHax was just released. I have homebrew again! So in order for this to work, I just need a physical copy of the Japanese version and use Hans right?

Yep you should be able to. If you need help finding a JP copy I happened to buy mine at Amazon.com for less than $20 I think. Try there. Also let us know if you have trouble getting making the romfs.bin with the instructions provided. It's been a while since I was on Homebrew Launcher only so let me know if we missed any steps.

Gave the patch a bit of a spin.
Medals menu is drastically slower with the patch than without it (N3DS, NTR method). Top of the menu screen also says "The last fight a" or something like that, couldn't be arsed to take an image of it. Not sure what it's supposed to be, chapter title perhaps? I'm basically post game, hunting for stuff I missed.
UI stuff is still absolutely awful, but I'm not too surprised about that. Might as well just fix that for myself.
The opening video shouldn't be too hard to translate, if anyone can hook me up with the frames from it, I can insert the logo in.

Finally got it to work thanks to this tip about BootNTR Selector.

I knew I needed the boot selector after ntr failed, but I thought it was called ntr switcher. it's ntr selector for anyone. 3.2 seems to work perfectly for me based on the selector. that's if ur on 11.2.0-35 a9lh v4. :) I haven't played through the game, but I knew it worked once the translation team image appeared.

If I remember correctly Spiruna's House is held in the air by lots of balloons. You need to pop the balloons to be able to go inside.

Been playing a little bit and screen capping any particularly egregious typos I've spotted. Sorry if any of these have already been reported.

Might have been intended as either "Do you" or "D'you" for something a bit more colloquial.
General stuff: there's inconsistent usage of a few alternative characters throughout:
  • ' (straight apostrophe) and ’ (angled apostrophe)
  • ! (fullwidth Japanese exclamation mark) and ! (standard exclamation mark)
  • … (single ellipsis character) and ... (three periods) (Stage/Global/message_JP.gmm and Quest_Desc_JP.gmm use three periods, the rest seems standardized on the ellipsis character)
This is all nitpicking, it shouldn't affect enjoyment of the (excellent) patch, just offering fixes if they're desired. Apologies for any offense caused.

Actually thank you so much for posting these fixes. Some typos like the skills in the first picture had already been fixed, but perhaps not in the latest public release. I've gone and fixed everything you mentioned, thanks for the help. Fixed those punctuation inconsistencies and double spaces too. We appreciate the help.

A v1.02 update will most likely be posted in the next few days with various improvements to the text, fixed typos and such.

No game breaking errors have been found since v1.01 so it's not necessary to update, but it's recommended for those who want to play with the best quality.

Glad I can help.

Resuming where I left off with the .gmm files:

Looks like "collected them all" would be more appropriate here.

I actually think this one is fine, but it's here for reference since the three trials are named inconsistently.

Here is the "trial of strength", mentioned above, which I suggest should be capitalized (otherwise, the Trial of Courage should be uncapitalized).

This is a bit of an iffy one, but I assume it's talking about the Androids, plural? So probably warrants &lt;Androids&gt;’ (note apostrophe after >).

	<row id="NC0403">

I don't think "Orchid" was intended here; the names are written in katakana, as if they're foreign names being written in Japanese, and shouldn't be "translated" per se. Even though "ran" can mean "orchid" in Japanese, it wouldn't be written like this. I think the characters are just intended to be named "Ran" and "Ron". I don't think these are previous MapleStory characters though, so you're pretty much free to name them as you wish.

If I already have it installed by CIA from that iso site, do I still need to boot NTR every time I play it, or is the patch already applied on the CIA version so I wouldn't need to?

However, when we meet Tae Roon (prior to this in game-time, but later in the script), he makes it clear that they studied together under the same master and are like brothers. Maybe he should be described as Ronsha's "companion" rather than his "disciple" here?

This is sort of complicated, but I think Japanese MapleStory just calls all the storage keepers "Storage Keeper Goldman", like a running joke or something, and that's who this character is (ambiguously) referencing. In the English releases, all (most) Storage Keepers get unique names. The Storage Keeper from Herb Town is named "Mr. Gong" and I suspect this is who is actually being talked about here, since he's local and one of the many Goldmans in Japanese Maple Story.
And, break. This marks the not-quite-halfway mark.

Is that really &lt;Valdis&gt;?</language>
The comma here is misplaced, it should really come between "you" and "right". "during your fight was helping you, right?"

I want to take a moment to correct an error I made previously: I claimed that Yulete in your translation was actually Juliet, but I was wrong. Upon reaching this part of the script, I see that you had it right before I came along: Yulete is in this game and Juliet is not. I've edited it out of the post where I suggested this change, and I apologize for any additional effort this caused.
