how do you trace?
You are taking picture with the camera and you see it as a layer? in the animation it's not displayed so we don't know if you did it yourself or not :(
that's taking out merit for a lot of artists then if we don't know what they did themselves or not.

Like, 68% of the "Best this Weeks" are traces of some anime or game character. You can tell if the lines are just solid during the reply with no pre-sketching or even erases during the drawing. Its disappointing to see tracess get priority and attention over a lot of other much better paintings by guys who just aren't popular, or didn't draw some anime shit.

^Agreed. there should be a a best of the week for pics that used any reference and those that did not.
My lastest drawing was a pic traced from Genzoman from DeviantArt.
I absolutely adore his artestic skills. So I decided to do one of his drawing hand drawn,
_198262.jpg

It wasn't easy but it was fun as hell.
I had to do the colors myself though because you can't trace detailed colors. You can only trace the edge of something you draw.
In this type of drawing I learned how to details stuff, shade and color blend at the same time. XD
Feel free to compare: http://genzoman.devi...-Navi-275590954
All credits goes to the original artist.
Now I'm working on a drawing to celebrate Kirby's 20th anniversary. XD

That looks awesome gamefan o.o and I agree about the traces, it makes me mad when I work my face off on something original and then a OBVIOUS trace makes the best this week. However the top ranked drawings are mostly original. I like some of the little comics people do on colors as well, they're pretty funny. I also can't stand when people just put up a painting of their friend code or of random words like "Requesting a boyfriend" (yes they put painting like that on colors...) it makes it hard to either have your own paintings seen or to see the actual hard work painting people put up.

Yeah, I mean, it may not look it but I put quite a bit of energy and time into making my paintings look cartoony and colorful, even uf I don't end up getting even 2 or 3 likes, it pisses me off to see some other guy using a similar style, except with someone like Link get BoW. And don't even get me STARTED on Chat Rooms. To be honest the only reason I even upload them is because I need something to put in my sig >_>

Thanks for liking it. Tracing is good because it's a natural part of learning art.
The problem is that Colors! members abuses doing traces and not only that, they won't give credits to the original artist, probably out of fear that they won't get as many likes as much.
Look at my drawing, I got so many likes and I still said that it wasn't mine.
For those doing original drawing, effort isn't enough.
Hell I see lots of good drawings that were traces and no matter the effort, it was crappy.
It needs to be eye-candy.

Here's my new 3d colors drawing:

_347587.jpg

Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS!! ;) That's how awesome the system is. This time, I didn't trace at all. Was really challenging, but now I can see what effort can do to change the view of your finalized drawing. I don't even know if that kind of club nintendo poster even exists o-o. I still don't have Mario Kart 7, but hopefully I can save enough for one soon...

Chavosaur reminded me to show off here so :P
Click on them to go to the colors page.

Here's from before I noticed I could use portrait mode -.- But it's one of my favorites.

And here's my latest. I just found out how to get the pencil effect, before I was using full opacity black and it made my drawings look like crap. Now I just use the smallest line, with the most transparency and it looks like pencil :3 I stupidly forgot to add shades of color / shadows before merging the layers and saving... so I can't go back and fix it. Also, her skin looks weird on the computer but fine in colors...
Before:
K9fdJl.jpg

I was just curious and added up my total likes. I have 2502+ spread across 25 paintings. (I didn't count my latest because those only have like 10 likes each :< )

Holy crap you guys are bloody awesome! All of you! I don't actually have Colours 3D, but after seeing what you guys can do it looks a lot like a Paint Tool Sai alternative (just on a smaller screen). Might get it.

how long can you work on it?
I've read it has a limit of 6hours for the animation, and 2MB for the file size on Colors! (DS)
Is this limitation removed?

I guess it's not fully removed, at least for the animation as I saw some broken animations on the website, a lot of them are not complete. That's too bad that they don't allow bigger file/animation recording :(

:glare:
Thanks for answering my questions
Oh sorry. Well, people want more details in a drawing. Whether it's shading, tiny details, texture. These long processes (sometimes boring) all make drawing more lifelike, as it really brings out it's best. But you can't do it without taking art class and tracing.
_329260.jpg

See? This one is a rather simple drawing, but it took effort, as seen with the details, form, and shading. All of that is enough to make your drawing more appealing and get likes.

I think the only thing that bugs me about colors is how the undo button begins to take longer and longer to undo even a simple line as the drawing get bigger and more detailed. Then it even stops after a certain point, sometimes when you really need it!
And btw pokefloote if I want to step up my game, I'll trace an anime chick with big bewbs and get instant likes! BWAHAHAHA
(seeing as right now I only have like 20 likes total for all my pics D: )

Instant likes, best of the week, and accusations of being a pervert by a bunch of nine year olds that aren't allowed to be using the colors gallery in the first place! Yay!

Oh, and I noticed it matters what time of day you upload stuff. I live in CA, so if I upload at night, most of the USA is asleep. No good! People won't see it in new paintings! Post during the day when people are active, not during school hours, etc.
