...Seeing as you like the 3D Zelda games, I recommend Twilight Princess next. If you want a change of pace and are willing to try 2D Zelda, I recommend starting with Minish Cap since it is probably the least punishing while still being fun of the various 2D Zelda experiences. If you happen to enjoy Minish Cap, then I say just take the rest in whatever order you see fit. I can't comment on the rest of the Zelda games out there, as either I haven't played them, or you already played them (WW and OoT).

I agree on Minish Cap. I'm a huge fan of 3D Zelda games, and none of the 2D Zeldas have kept me interested for long enough to beat them. That is, until I played Minish Cap. Played the hell out of that thing

I didn't like twilight princess as much when compared to other zelda game. Still a great game, but it's definitely at the bottom for me. Felt like a lot of hand-holding. You trade the bright colourful and adventurous wind waker for dark dreary and that trying-to-be-epic feel. Not bad, but you have to set your expectations to match.

If you loved Wind Waker, Twilight princess is very much the opposite of it as far as zelda games get. Skyward sword is extremely linear and overly claustrophobic, but is much more colourful and full of life than twilight princess.

The Gameboy colour and advance games were developed by capcom, so they have a different feel. A positive if you're looking for a different kind of zelda.

My vote is for a link to the past or minish cap.

ok don't say i didn't warn you. the game is chock o block full of flaws. i posted a complete list of them in another thread can't be bothered to find it.

just cause it has flaws (and believe me, I'm critical about them too), it doesn't means that they completely ruin the experience.

SS is good enough to have some fun, really.

This, the game has some flaws yes. But still it's fun to play, I beated all Zelda games before SS (I'm in Eldin now, not so much time to play).

So for me, go to Majora's Mask now, it's on my personal Top 3, after MM Twilight Princess, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, SS and finally the best Zelda ever: A Link To The Past.

Seeing as you just played through Ocarina of Time, most would agree Majora's Mask should be played next. Not only is it a sequel to Ocarina, they both use the same engine making it look and feel familiar.

After that, play Twilight Princess then Skyward Sword. Once you're done with all current 3D games, make jump to the 2D games, and/or watch the teasers for Zelda Wii U.

Even though you are looking obtaining these games legitimately and there's no excuse not to own these great titles.
I'd highly recommend emulating Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword assuming you have a semi decent PC. The benefit from increased internal resolution, anti aliasing, shaders, and optional hd texture packs can dramatically improve immersion by bringing out detail that would otherwise be impossible to see on the console.



No matter which version of Twilight Princess you purchase, emulate and play the Gamecube version.
The Gamecube and Wii versions are identical except the Wii version has tacked on motion controls and is awkwardly mirrored to make link right handed. The mirroring causes some minor annoyances if you're already familiar with locations from Ocarina of Time. A suggestion would be purchase the Wii version as it's easily obtainable, but pirate the Gamecube version to run on the dolphin emulation.

I was kinda in your position when I started playing Zelda, way back when in 2011 and I didn't have anything to play on my 3DS, I picked up a copy of Ocarina of Time and it became my guilty pleasure. Eventually, I became part of the Ambassador program, got access to VC for Zelda 1, 2 and Minish Cap, and played them all. I also got the free Four Swords Anniversary Edition when it rolled around for DSiWare. In early 2012 I picked up a copy of Skyward Sword to see what the fuss was about and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantastic experience, controls were great and made me feel like I was actually wielding a sword at times.

The next step for me was to pick up a copy of Twilight Princess. The GameCube version was both rare and expensive so I opted for the Wii version despite the criticisms it recieved for being a mirror-image of the GameCube version. The first few hours were a total drag- but I pushed through it- and discovered my favorite Zelda game yet. It's a kind of halfway point between Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword- taking gameplay from Ocarina and refinements of Skyward and added a darker, grittier theme and feel that's unique to this particular Zelda game. I had a great time with Twilight Princess.

As a good introduction to topdown Zeldas, I'd recommend Minish Cap as a starting point. As for the third person ones, you've already been recommended them all. Majora's Mask I will have to recommend again, though. Skyward Sword, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks I'd recommend avoiding. Even with mods to give them proper controls, they just aren't very good. They look nice, but the gameplay is designed around the touch/movement controls, where the controls are the main challenge, not really the gameplay.

Once you get more comfortable with the topdown Zeldas, I'd recommend playing ALttP then ALBW. After that, Link's Awakening and the Oracle games are good, though probably haven't aged well for those of us that don't have nostalgia for them.

you should play 3d Zelda chronologicaly meaning oot first mm second twilight 3rd since they kindof connect like that (oot/mm link is technichaly in twilight but not recognizable), although skyward was supposed to be before oot, it could still be played later. there all great games even the ds ones, just make sure to stay far far away from 2 horrible games known as Zelda cd-I and wand of gamelon
