Hey guys. First of all, I want to say I didn't mod my system, I just bought it like that and already tried asking the guy who sold it to me but saying he's clueless would be putting it kindly (he told me to delete stuff by just deleting the channel on the Wii settings, which I've read doesn't delete anything installed via wad manager and eventually leads to a similar issue, at least as far as it goes to being greeted by the "full memory" message every time because there is something still in the Wii's memory so he pretty much didn't listen and acted as if I hadn't deleted anything just yet, potentially leading to future issues down the line).

With that being said, I wanted to delete a channel/VC GBA game (Mario vs Donkey Kong) but I stupidly thought I had to delete it via the wad manager so I deleted what I thought contained the game itself (there were 4 files with almost the same name I believe, except the ones that had (vwii) at the end) and since I didn't see any errors I backed out to the Wii menu. However, as soon as I did, the Wii said the system memory was full so I needed to make space by deleting savedata, which I did until I realized nothing changed. Now everytime I turn it on I'm greeted by the same "full memory" message I got the first time. I thought of formatting the system in order to effectively clear the memory of everything except the hacks (or so I've read so far) but I have no idea if this would create new problems for me (like needing to install anything again, namely the homebrew channel or the USB loader one).

The game files were named

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - G47D Classic Banner (vWii)

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - G47D Classic Banner

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - G47D (vWii) (I believe this is the one I removed via the Wad Manager 1.8 I believe, which is the installer/uninstaller that came with the system)

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - G47D

I really hope someone can help me because I honestly don't know what I did or how to fix it.

EDIT: No idea what kond of homebrew is installed, just know that it uses USB Loader GX+ in order to load Wii and NGC games and it has a micro SD with some files.

You can safely delete stuff from wii settings. I think what u read is that this method doesn't remove everything, so carefully uninstalling a wad or using any title deleter will remove all traces, whereas uninstalling from data management will leave behind something small / immaterial /harmless

I see. Is there anything I can do to fix my Wii? It's currently stuck on the "Your system memory is full" screen.

I was hoping a system format would solve the issue but I don't know if this would cause any additional issues.

Formatting a Wii only deletes save data, not channels, presumably this is the same for vWii too.
Can't you delete some channels or move them to the SD card?

I already tried, nothing worked. Hence I wanted to know if formatting the Wii would be a safe option here.

The problem was caused by me deleting a file (Mario vs. Donkey Kong - G47D (vWii)) with the Wad manager because I thought that's how you'd uninstall a VC game that was installed as a channel via a .wad file.

Uninstalling something wouldn't lead to taking up more memory. On the system menu is full screen, can't you access data management? You should see how many blocks each channel (and gamesave) is taking up, look for the largest ones and manage them
I already tried deleting things from the data management menu, there were no changes at all.

And I know it shouldn't because it made no sense to me but that's the message I got as soon as I backed out to the system menu so I'm guessing this is some kind of brick.

You can uninstall that way, it's not a problem. Maybe this is some kind of NAND corruption...

What can I do then?

I can only launch titles from priiloader if they're channels by the way. GX loader loads fine but trying to open any title crashes back into the homebrew channel. In case this helps diagnose anything.

Also, tried to reinstall and uninstall the game that caused the problem and while installing worked, I got the same "memory full" message. I uninstalled it via the memory managment menu but that didn't fix anything either.

You may need to keep deleting things until u have some free blocks. Go to your data management again and take some pics to share with us

My phone's not letting me share pics for some reason but the SD card is empty, showing 21205 blocks. The Wii shows about 4 or 5 different savefiles and 0 blocks despite be already deleting whatever I could find that I didn't care about so I doubt that's the problem.

You can try using AnyTitleManager and view the channels installed on your Wii, be careful about accessing the IOS section and deleting something you shouldn't.

I got AnyTitleDeleter and checked. I believe I deleted a channel named ???????? but that didn't seem to do much. Should I try with that other app?

Additionally, when I try to use priiloader I can launch the HBC and the few titles I got as channels but if I try to use USB Loader GX+ it loads, however, launching any title makes it crash back to the HBC.

Another thing I noticed is that if I go to "launch title" from the priiloader there's a titled named ???????? (HAAA) but I can't see it anywhere when I try to delete it via AnyTitleDeleter.

on the wii u, you cant format from the vwii side (unless maybe with mods that let you access the settings pages), and formatting from the wii u side clears everything except cIOS and such

I don't have a regular Wii around to see if it behaves the same though

Can you confirm you're checking for channels? You keep referring to save files which are in a different menu

Edit, videos not mine, first one I found where it was demonstrated, I didn't even watch the whole thing or have my volume up

I checked both just in case.

I deleted a few channels (mind you, it didn't have that many to begin with) but stopped when the available blocks were still 0.

I looked around some old threads, some people eventually got out of it by just continuing to delete everything. Others had to format. In any case, formatting seems like a guaranteed fix.

You can always dump the nand with bootmii and create a vanilla nand with this then flash it with bootmii as a last resort https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/Ohneschwanzenegger_Wii

If I understand correctly, this would mean reverting the console back to stock, right? If so, do I mod it as normal or do I need to follow different steps?

This is my first Wii so I don't really have experience modding, sorry.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. Would I need to reinstall anything after formatting the system?

Additionally, do I need to create a Nand backup before formatting or can I format it just like that without any problem?

Check if any of the channels u have remaining take up a lot of blocks. U can see the blocks before actually deleting anything. And if your next step is to format anyway, may as well delete and see.

There is one tutorial channel that comes preloaded sometimes that takes up a lot of space (wii+internet iirc)

Formatting should not be risky but a recent nand backup never hurts.

They are (mostly) simple games so none of them really takes a lot of blocks.

What should I do after formatting? Do I need to reinstall anything?

I buy them frozen in big bag at a wholesale place here (Costco) and they are pretty good. I actually think they taste better air fry than oven or in oil.

You need double breading or more. Then it won't matter if it doesn't stick, there will be a shell of breading around and the pickle rattling about in there :tpi:
