i have always wondered. i mean i know on 3DS we have Resident Evil: Revelations which is a good one, we also have street fighters & dead or alive: dimensions & zelda: ocarina of time remake, & a few others.
but like what if a true franchise came to 3DS exclusive & stayed along the lines of being like gears of war, crysis, gta (3d ones), halo, or metroid as refrence.

i myself have been waiting to see this. i myself am a ds/dsi homebrewer & as you can see from my work if i had to chance to dev for 3DS & the funds i would sure give it a shot to my fullest. im talking full fledged story, graphics, 3D, DLC with demotion, voice chat online with 16 players, you would think your playing a wiiu/ps3/360 lol, wouldn't leave 1 feature out just because its a handheld. if i had the funds i would defiantly give it a go. B-)

Why would we ever want Metroid to be exclusive to the 3DS? - There Will be a Metroid game for 3DS; no doubt in my mind. But I don't see the win for us if that were the only Metroid game coming.

i was talking a about a metroid "like", gears of war "like", gta "like" exclusive, not making those games 3ds exclusive.

Dude the Vita's current game library as far as exclusives go sucks the 3ds has it beat and no one is pushing the 3ds hard yet.

What I meant was that the Vita was supposed to get the boring graphically realistic ports shooters. :creep:

I think Kid Icarus could become a 3DS-exclusive franchise. Maybe they're actually reviving it, or maybe they just made the one and will be back in 20 years with another. dunno.

    My two cents:

Gameplay is more important than graphics. Also a good soundtrack helps. The game must be enjoyable to play without being too repetitive. There should be some puzzle or challenge. Not a fan of most FPS games. I do like top down shoot-em-ups, platformers, metroidvania games, RPGs, Action Adventure games and dungeon crawlers. AAA titles must be easy to pick up and play. You shouldn't need an hour long tutorial to get into the game. Also opening scenes that build too much story without letting you play can be very obnoxious. I want my games to be games not movies.

Online play is nice but not a must. Skyrim had DLC but no online play yet it held my attention for many hours. (even though it fell into the repetitive category, and had little challenge - go figure). However on the opposite end of that I put many hours into Minecraft, but probably would have quit much more quickly if it didn't have the online play, so that really depends on the game.

Also even though I said gameplay > graphics, good graphics do help and I don't necessarily mean 'realistic' graphics. Angry birds is basically a re-skinned version of bash the castle, but because it was cuter (had better graphics and better sound effects) it became much more popular.

No one "plays" games for the graphics.

But many choose the games they'll play based on graphics. One good example is Donkey Kong Country for the snes, the first game of the series was the best-selling non-bundled game for the snes, but I find the game to be just good, not awesome. (unlike DKC2 and DKC3, those were more polished in everyway but didn't sell as well as the first one)

Well yeah. Graphics dont make a game. But they can elevate the status of one. Or go the other way.

Yes, I agree. Graphics to a great game is more of a bonus rather than a complete game changer.

Thats not what he's saying, i think. He's asking for a new AAA franchise that's 3DS exclusive.

And for the record, i wouldnt consider SM3DL or Paper Mario AAA. Just my 2 cents.

Could you cite an adventure 3d platformer for 3DS more complex and polished than SM3DL? It may not be the best game there is, but I think it's definetely an AAA title.

Maybe an strategy game just like DotA 2 or League of Legends could fit well the 3DS library. They're definetely AAA titles, with multiplayer, chat support and are really famous.

I think it depends on your definition of a AAA title. I don't think a AAA title is defined by how "good" it is. For example, Sonic '06 is a AAA title, a big-budget main console release in the popular Sonic series, but it still sucks. Meanwhile, Sonic Rush is a really good game, but it's not a AAA title. It's a side entry in the series. Same thing with SM3DL. It's a great game, no denying that, but it's a side entry in the series, not a major entry. A AAA title would be more along the lines of Super Mario Galaxy.

Kid Icarus: Uprising, on the other hand, is the first main entry in the Kid Icarus series in over 20 years, and is no doubt meant to be a full AAA game, featuring a 12-15 hour campaign, a robust online multiplayer environment, and tons of replay value. And there's no "bigger" Kid Icarus game on consoles to compare it to, either.

That's just how I see it, anyway.

Now that you mentioned it, I googled the definitin of an AAA title and found that there is no consense. Some people described them as high-quality games, others as big-budget games, others as games that sold or are expected to sell over a million copies, other say it's just as just a key word used to promote a title and so on.

I am not familiarized with this term, but it seems to be used more often with home consoles and PC titles. Considering the Mario series in handhelds alone, SM3DL would be considered an AAA handheld game imo. It is most likely the most expensive Mario game to be ever produced in a handheld, it sold over 5 million copies, it is a high quality game, it doesn't have much replay value but, what the heck, it's just one of those games I am not willing to sell
