Misc Yet another usb dongle question

I know this has probably been answered many times before, but I keep reading conflicting responses.

I have a wired network in my house. Can I use a third party usb wifi dongle on one of my computers, I'm cheap and don't want to pay for a Nintendo one, and use it to connect to my DSLite?
