I'm pretty depressed over just finding out about the patch for 9.0-10.1. I updated my 3DS about an hour ago after not being able to use the browser, only to find a way to bypass it about 15 minutes ago. Fml. >__>;;
Same here. Ugh. Since I was forced to update to 10.2, I did it without knowing that there was a way to bypass it. Also, I saw smealum's video saying 10.2 so I thought Browserhax now works with 10.2 :(

Is Browserhax gone forever or is there still a chance that it will work in the future?

WebKit exploits crop all the time. But it takes time for them to be turned into something to load .3dsx files like the homebrew launcher.

In short, just be patient. :)

I'm sure we'll more browserhax variants in the future, but the thing is, 9.9 planted the seeds for them to remotely kill your browser whenever they want to. It phones home now and asks if it's the latest version or not, and if it's not, the browser disables itself and demands you update, so any new browserhaxen will be short-lived.

One more thing to note: Smealum often released (if I am not mistaken) on weekend, when Nintendo unlikely pay their workers overtime wage to patch the exploit. Every Monday has the risk of the new hax may get patched. So get hax as soon as it's released.
Oh, dammit that's what I messed up on. Next time better go check his twitter!

I see. Thanks! :) Has this happened before?

Thanks for the response. Anyway, if we get a new browserhax in the future, is there a way to install another exploit so that should there be any problem with the new browserhax, I wouldn't have to wait for a new one to come out?

Also, I'm so confused right now. Smealum's video has 10.2 on its title, I thought the new exploit files would work with 10.2, but when I load the slider page, it says "browser version not recognized." :(

You would have a short window of time (days? A week? Who knows, it depends on how quick Nintendo throws the switch) to run other hax installers.

The 10.2 browser was patched. Hax 2.5 is compatible with 10.2, but not through the browser, you need another way to run it (CN, Ironfall, OoT, Smash)

I would speculate that it'd be easier to get around the 9.9 - 10.1 browser block than to find an exploit in the new browser - since the things we have to work around are external to the console (at worst, maybe a DNS with a mirrored copy of the Nintendo blocklist that allows all??? At best, a DNS that doesn't allow access to that server at all.). That's just speculation though.

I wonder if one day Nintendo will just change it to test with no custom DNS, or connect to their servers via IP rather than name. DNS redirection seems pretty powerful.

The thing is Nintendo starts carrying out a seed of browser blocking in 9.9+ firmwares. Hypothetically we get new browserhax this weekend, Nintendo may release new update with minor patch to block it the following week, and we will be in the same situation again if we don't update to the newer update at that time.

So for it to work in case we don;t change our strategy, we need another free game/newer themehax & browserhax at same time. When the Hax's released, we need to get it as fast as we can, just like with Ironfall. But we always have a bricked browser, and in case of themehax your custom theme access is limited/fully eliminated.

I believe Nintendo is targeting freehax and homebrew developers. If I am not mistaken when Smealum was hinting at Freehax (Ironhax and tubehax) back then, Nintendo release 9.9 update with containing this browser update snag seed. They had been waiting for this chance to upset the developers (they couldn't have patched other paid exploit yet) with their proud work: freehax. Wish Smealum and Yellows8 can overlook it soon and find a new strategy to outsmart Nintendo!

Other than that, perhaps only a huge kernel exploit may save the day.

Hey guys. I have a question. Since we're not sure if Browserhax will be back soon and since I've already updated my system to 10.2, is Powersaves a good/better alternative for genning Pokemon? Thanks in advance. :)

I swear, this affected me in a whole 'nother level that I didn't expect. I was so sad the whole day. But knowing that the browser bypass only works for N3DS is a relief, though.

P.S. Mods, if I ever broke any rules, please take my post down.

I hadn't used browserhax on my n3ds for one-two weeks or something so I think that my browser isn't affected by the upload message.
I'm on 9.9, is there any way to avoid it?
