Yea, while I was out getting a Wii speak for the kid I grabbed myself a 2gb sd card for this as well as the "HD" video/audoi cables for the wii to my HDTV to see if that helps with my screen. So if anyone gets the flash swapping method in gear please do share?! If this is going to work... it definately needs a little pick me up in the processing department...because it reminds me of an old tower i have around here somewhere... hehe

By the way... does anyone know how to change the resolution in this setup? Stuff is just way too big on my 50" when it could be downsized so I can have more real estate... and unfortunately I have tried switching sizes of the screen to see the top and bottom lines of the desktop and it look like I am going to have to deal w/ that as well?

can someone make a video tutorial on how to install all this, because this is really confusing.....?

That's what 640x480 looks like - the Wii can't do anything higher res than that. As for the overscan issue, well, I'd see this as an early beta - we should wait and see what's in the next release.

Hey guys,

Just a short update: the next version will include swap and an on-screen keyboard. Beisdes that, I will also have vnc server and client, remote desktop client, ipod integration, sshfs and some other stuff.
Take a look here for more info.

regards,
Bert Jan

Btw, if anyone has trouble with stuff running slowly, make sure you use the latest kernel (2.6.27b). Most pre-2.6.27b kernels are slow as hell because of a very limited amount of available memory.

@Bert Jan
Looking forward to the next release! Can you give an example of the xorg.conf needed for a PAL 480p Wii (640x480)... I looked at the docs for the xorg driver but there are differences between what that tells me to do and what you've got on this release. The driver docs say:
Code:
Section "Screen"
....
Device "WII/Gc Card"
....
DefaultDepth 16
Subsection "Display"
Modes "640x480"
EndSubsection

EndSection

But you have a modeline entry with what looks like a lot of possible screen sizes etc...

I got the kernel.dol or elf from Wiibrew and the rest from TehSkeen when you released it there or Brekken posted it Bertjan... I am not really complaining considering that none of this stuff on my Wii is really supposed to be happening! LOL... Can someone post the latest kernel just to make sure I have it?
I am going to switch to my 2gb card today and see if that works... should i make a 3rd partition ready for a swap if this will be possible?

BTw... you don't think by adding some of those features like ipod integration will slow this down anymore?
What I mean is... we have the basics and wouldn't more added stuff like the ipod integration slow things down for this? Just wandering.

Overall, this is really a cool exploit, mod, hack whatever you want to call it. Thanks again Bertjan.

brilliant!

Note: this will probably be the last xwhiite release, as it will be superseded by Muzer's dist Miight soon. Miight will feature more functionality and easier installation than xwhiite. I'm possibly teaming up with Muzer (and a few other) to work on the development of Miight together. Expect to hear more about that soon
In the meanwhile: have fun with xwhiite 0.2!
sounds the business that, only good things can happen:)

Great work Bert. Please let us know if we have to create a 32mb swap partition?

He told me no extra partition needed. Thanks again BertJan... will fire up ubuntu afrer I finish working on this WiiSpeak and Guitar Hero matter I am working on.

I don't think so...

** UPDATE 2 **
I've finished version 0.2 of xwhiite. New features in this version:
- VNC server
- VNC client
- Microsoft remote desktop client
- iPod integration via gtkpod: use your wii+ipod as jukebox
- on-screen keyboard
- swap enabled (32MB - uses a local swapfile included in the package, no need to setup an extra partition)
- sshfs support
- a bunch of other small improvements and cleanups. The entire dist should still fit on a 512MB SD-card.

Hope this helps I copied it from his thread on TehSkeen.
