The site is a good site, a bit expensive for some but that has no bearing on them being good or not. Though I, and more importantly MS, have no problem with third party hard drives it is probably legit. What I imagine happened was they got a bunch of slims in to RGH and sent them back out with real sized hard drives installed (JTAG/RGH support any size hard drive), they are then flogging this on for those that want it.

It could be that the HDD doesn't have the emulator partition.
This can be easily injected in.

Yes it's possible, but you'll only able to use 320 GB.
Stock 360's have a HD Security Sector in the HDD, which limits the filesize of the HD.

This is the first I'm hearing of a 500GB drive for the 360... Hell, I work electronics for a major retailer and haven't even seen one, so odd that there's an HDDSS for it... In addition, there's a product listing on Newegg with one verified review saying the console does see the entire drive.

I can't even find anything on The Google about a 500GB drive being compatible internally on a non RGH/JTAG console

3rd party 500gb drives do exist and it's ss was dumped and released earlier this month. A few people have flashed the ss and reported it works.

Well that's a first to me.
I've read the thread quickly and can see the working of it.
However, I personally don't really trust it (modifying the security sector in order to get more space)
It might work, but when will it fail to work and the HDD won't be accepted anymore?

Well, if people want a 500 GB HDD in their 360, I'm not going to stop them.
I'm still advising to stick with 320 GB ;p

The 500gb is approx $1 more. but doesnt have free shipping, so its like $9 more.

I vaguely remember there was a special one-off edition console made for a Call of Duty game that had a 500gb hard drive. (It may have been a PS3, and it's too early in the morning for me). It was never made public, like a prize for a tournament or something.

The cheapest method - assuming you have a spare SATA port on your computer - would probably be to order a Western Digital 250/320/500GB laptop HDD, and use HDDHackr to get it set up yourself, then swap it into the drive enclosure on the 360. It's not hard as long as you can follow instructions, but getting the fat 360's HDD enclosure put back together can be a bit of a pain in the ass.

Somehow I completely missed the 500GB news prior to tonight. It's excellent, though; my 320GB drive is so full of digital games that I don't have room to back up more than three or four of my physical discs at a time. I've got a spare 500GB WD drive from my new laptop (swapped in a 750GB one), so I just need some method of transferring the content that doesn't completely blow.

Easy! Just use Party Buffalo drive explorer or one of the fifty different releases of Xplorer360 that may or may not work.

To be completely honest I think your best bet is gonna be from old hard drive in console -> flash drive -> new hard drive, rinse and repeat. It's not that it doesn't completely blow, it does completely blow, but it completely blows less than the alternatives.

Yeah, I could do it that way, but Party Buffalo has a habit of being a bit erratic with large transfers. Even then I only have a laptop, so the most 'reasonable' way to do it would be to hook the old drive up to a USB 2.0 adapter and hook the new one up to a USB 3.0 adapter on my only 3.0 socket. Even if that did ease up the bottlenecking it'd take a terribly long time to transfer 250-290GB of stuff that way, and I'd need to leave my laptop set up somewhere where no one else is going to bump anything loose for a day or so.
