Wait, seriously?
...How hard is it to mod a 360 to be region free?

Had the same thing in mind !

i'd so get this and then flash it, seeming as you can get most pirated games region free anyway !

Out with xbox360! in with the PS3! Now get ur arse away from FPS games and start translating those cool awesome JRPG games i always wanted.

Spoiler alert: The PS3 actually has more FPS games than the Xbox 360.

Both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 have Call of Duty. The Xbox 360 has Halo 3 and Reach. The PS3 has Killzone 2, Killzone 3, Resistance 1, Resistance 2, and the upcoming Resistance 3.

The Xbox flopped for different reasons than it being a "FPS console", because the PS3 definitely has more.

Although the PS3 does have more shooter titles, it sure has games of other variety... (a lot actually)

Maybe that's why Microsoft launched Kinect?

I actually love consoles doing badder, because then the companies try hard to give you great deals.
Guild i think you mean the PS3 has more good FPS games than the 360

What's so wrong with Halo that makes it so bad then? Because it's popular? Honestly, Halo Reach is fun as a casual multiplayer game. I can't say the same for Halo 3 (that game is downright boring) but Halo Reach is actually quite fun. But of course if it's popular, it's fucking terrible obviously.

Plus my point is that people were calling the Xbox 360 essentially a "FPS console" when the PS3 has more FPS games anyway. The Xbox 360 failed because it didn't tote enough content that appeal to the Japanese as the PS3 did. It's still pretty much tied (currently) with the PS3 around the world, even with having such a shit sales status in Japan. That's not bad at all.

So what if it appeals to western gamers more than Japanese gamers? Japanese gaming is not the be-all end-all.

So does the Xbox. They're just games not marketed at Japanese gamers.

Really hard unless you're good at soldering. (Or have the money for someone to do it for you.) Jtagged 360s are the only ones RF. Flashed drives are not able to do RF.

Serves you right Microsoft, taking my Idolm@ster, I'm glad Idolm@ster 2 will be released now on the PS3.

I'm glad it's dead in Japan, now any games in that series will be on the PS3 or Vita where they always belonged in the first place.

THis sucks... It means the 360 is now completelyresigned to generic shooters and definitely no more JRPGs. No Japanese games developer is going to make games for a system that's considered dead in their home territory and that means 360 owners will now miss out on a lot of titles that might have been multi-platform but will now become PS3 exclusives. THis is a big blow for Microsoft.

the question is: does Microsoft need Japan?
Yes, just as much as Sony and Nintendo need the rest of the world.

Microsoft has flopped two consoles in one of the most important gaming markets in the world and unfortunately for them they don't have the styles of games that interest Japanese gamers. Even with all the JRPG's, it still failed because they were either garbage games or they were also available on the PS3. Microsoft couldn't buy a Japanese exclusive that they could retain for any decent length of time, developers have to cut their losses and know there are superior alternatives in their home region.

I swear if I have to state the same fucking fact again (it's not even a goddamn opinion, it's a fact) I'm going to just smash my computer.

Here's my personal collection of Xbox games as an example (minus a few that are on loan or just not in the box):

xbox%20games.jpg

From left to right: Fallout 3 DLC disc (DLC but an ARPG), Dragon Age II (ARPG), Dragon Age Origins (ARPG), Alan Wake (adventure game, loaned from a friend though), Fallout New Vegas (ARPG, also loaned from a friend), Prince of Persia (action/platformer), Lost Odyssey (RPG), Marvel Ultimate Alliance (ARPG, picked it up for free from a "free stuff" bin), Fable II (ARPG), Assassin's Creed (action), The Orange Box (first person games, NOT generic FPS games), Dead Rising (action), Red Dead Redemption (action), Fallout 3 (ARPG), Crackdown (action, I did NOT buy it for the Halo 3 beta), Resident Evil 5 (action), Borderlands (FPARPG), RDR Undead Nightmare (DLC disc but action), 007 Blood Stone (TPS).

Not in the box: Alice: Madness Returns (platformer, on loan from a friend), Halo 3 (generic FPS, worst purchase I made for the console outside of Bionic Commando: Rearmed), Mass Effect (ARPG, my brother's playing it), Mass Effect 2 (ARPG, also on loan to a friend), ESIV: Oblivion (also on loan to a friend), FFXIII (RPG, actually borrowing from a friend), Left 4 Dead 2 (non-generic FPS, currently in use so the case is out).

Then there's all my XBLA purchases which I can only think of a few off the top of my head: Perfect Dark (non-generic FPS), CellFactor: The PK Wars (non-generic FPS, don't hate), Puzzle Quest: CotW (RPG), Magic the Gathering: DotP (fucking best TCG ever made), Magic the Gathering: DotP 2012 (also fucking best TCG ever made), Castle Crashers (ARPG/hack 'n' slash), Bionic Commando: Rearmed (which I hate with a passion), Shadow Complex (Metroidvania), probably others I've forgotten.

Learn how to fucking use an Xbox, people.

-Snip realised the point.

I know its not all shooters Guild. Its just an example. A loss of variety in any games market is bad and you've got to admit the 360 is known, more often than not, for generic shooters. Its a very western console and that's what sells hugely over here (for some reason)

It's known for that because people are fucking retarded. Just because a majority is ignorant doesn't mean you should be too. It's a very western console because it has western games that are, quite frankly, amazing. Mass Effect makes you cry manly tears.

Yeah, but Jams, the Xbox wasn't even much of a JRPG system- or even a system for good Japanese games on a surplus anyway. If you really want JRPGs in the 7th generation you have to look to the DS, Wii, and to a lesser extent , the PS3.

Also
*Glares at Guild for not having Mass Effect 1 or 2 there*

The Wii is a shit system for RPGs in general. Xenoblade and The Last Story may be good but it doesn't fix a system that's been dead in that department pretty much since launch.

The PSP also has an incredible JRPG library. Between the PSN Store and remakes, you have access to the first NINE Final Fantasy games, plus all that other good shit like Ys and Legend of Heroes (TitS especially). Plus Crimson Gem Saga and plenty of unlocalized ones that aren't coming to mind.

I said my brother is playing Mass Effect and my copy of Mass Effect 2 is on loan.

Well if you combine the VC and the retail then you will get a pretty good library of JRPG (and it has Phantom Brave: We Meet Again, so I love it forever).

Though the reason I didn't list the PSP was because I don't have one [yet] and I wasn't thinking about it for that reason. In other words it was a mistake.
