But these episodes were never released outside of Japan? Or are they translated on the DS/3DS already?
These are the same games that were released on the DS and that are now available on many, many other platforms. I don't get it either.

Sorry for my ignorance on this... But these episodes were never released outside of Japan? Or are they translated on the DS/3DS already?
The first 3 Ace Attorney games were released on GBA only in Japan.

Later, the games were remade for Nintendo DS with redraw graphics, new music and touchscreen features. Then, these NDS versions were localized and released outside Japan, which is the version we all know and love. The last game feature a bonus case called Rise from the ashes, which has a strong emphasis on NDS features (touchscreen and mic). That case wasn't on the GBA version, but it was on all subsequent ports.

Capcom being Capcom remade them again for 3DS and made even more changes. Some people don't like these changes.

These patches try to put the NDS localizations on the GBA games.

Particularly, I feel that each version has its pros and cons, but NDS is the best middle ground.

I would love to test it too! (if possible)
Can't wait to see GS2 translation and maybe a GS3 update.

Were you able to test it?

Hi there.

Well, that was meant to be a surprise, but now that the cat is out of the bag, we can no longer hide or deny it.

A lot of effort has been put behind the scenes into bringing 3 lines back into the English GBA port of GS1. We closely worked with MCBoy and PhoenixBound (disassembly/decompilation/authoring of original code) and @OmegaTheGreat (Spanish translation) for a long time to completely rewrite the Variable-width font routine and bring it to a whole new level, allowing 3-lines, text-centering, faster rendering, reloading the text after saving and reloading the, and even making the text sound much closer to the DS version.

The Spanish translation made a release earlier, so it featured it first.

Me and Spazzery have been considering to provide two versions of the English patch: a 2-line one and a 3-line one. Ofc all the scripts of the game and some graphics will have to be re-adjusted for 3 lines of text in the latter, so it will come a little later than the 2-lines version, which is already very close to completion.

Since the patch that will feature case 4 will mark the completion of the game, and will be the final release, we've been planning to polish every corner of the same before releasing it. But if anyone would be interested in playing a pre-final, potentially buggy, Alpha preview of the complete game, we could provide a Alpha release a lot earlier, for you to test and report back any issues you find.

I'd love to test it for you, guys. I still haven't played the last case yet, so I will go through every line and scene without skimming anyway.

Heya everyone, it's been a while yeah? Well I would like to present you all with my very own continuation of the GS1 English translation, picking up where the old team left off. This means that the game is now fully in English and should be free of game breaking glitches or bugs (as much as one can). I would like to also thank h3rmit, Spazzery and the many others who have started this project and contributed over the years, without them, there would be no GS1 translation or any GS translation for that matter. I hope you all enjoy this patch! PS: I included the instructions in the zip file. If you do encounter any major bugs or glitches here, just reply to this thread and I'll try to fix them to the best of my abilities.

Oh wow. Was this a manual translation? I'll probably still wait out for the main project to finish.

This translation was made using the tools the original team had used to translate the previous three cases in GS1. Of course my goal here was not to compete or negate anyone's work, but rather fill the current gap in the translated GS games

Thx, bud. Any plans to work on the second game?

Hello, everyone!

Sorry for the long absence. Both me and Spazzery have been quite busy in real life, which put off a final, complete and polished release of GS1, even though work was slowly being done in the background and the game was very near completion.

In the above post, @Chris_Dai_Gyakuten_Saiban, who was once given access to our private workspace in hopes that he'd contribute in GS2, suddently came back from a 3-year absence, silently copied our almost finished work in GS1 -which he had never contributed to before- and published it without asking or notifying anyone, with minor additions to the almost finished case 4:

Chris' attached txt said:
- Things done by me:
Case 4 fixes, game testing and debugging, and graphics made in GIMP were
completed independently for this final public release.

This was an unexpected turn of events. We'll be back with an update very soon.

Hey everyone,
Following h3rmit's response, I want to clarify my side to ensure complete transparency with the community:
Credits & Foundation: Full credit for the original groundwork, script, and project tools goes to h3rmit, Spazzery, and the team. This translation would not exist without their talent and years of effort, and I have never claimed otherwise.
My Work: My focus was bringing the build across the finish line, fixing script glitches, video glitches and other bugs in Case 4, creating custom English assets for the untranslated assets, and debugging/testing the ROM to ensure a stable, completed release.
Communication: While I should have given a direct heads-up to the team before making the final build public, my intent was simply to share a fully working patch with the community, not to diminish anyone's hard work.
The project documentation has been updated to make all contributions clear. I have tremendous respect for what h3rmit and the original team built. I won't be engaging in any further back-and-forth, so I hope everyone simply enjoys the patch!

Chris, that's not okay man. You seem to misunderstand our problem with this, so I'm gonna explain it to you as clearly as possible:

You took work we had done. In secret. Without telling us. And made a release, claiming to have finished what we wouldn't have.

That's not okay. And just because you credit everyone doesn't make it okay.

In your response, you completely negate the fact that you took our work (of case 4) that had been almost completed privately. You say you have respect for us. But with these actions that you took, you show disrespect towards us and our work. Even if your intentions were good, you have to consider that your actions say otherwise.

While I can understand wanting a patch badly released, doing it like this isn't gonna cut it and is not okay. Had you made your own tools and used only publicly accessible materials, it would've been more fair -- but it's still disrespectful without telling us.

Just imagine: you have access to a movie that's 95% edited. You edit the last 5% and release it. While you give credit to everyone making the movie, you are still disrespectful as heck for taking their work without permission and releasing it with your finishing touches.

You say you respect us. Now it's your chance to show that respect by removing your uploaded patch. Like h3rmit said, we're close to completion and will soon share an update.
