XBL Modern Warfare 2 exploit targets players wallets

Microsoft has posted a Service Alert, warning Xbox Live users that they may be threatened by phishing attempts through a Modern Warfare 2 exploit.

Hackers may not have access to your credit card information or XBL account, but some XBL users have claimed that their in-game rank and leaderboard data in Modern Warfare 2 has been altered by other users asking for money. Xbox.com has not commented on these dubious claims. Xbox.com's alert only warns of "specific messaging."

This news comes following Sony's recent announcement that 77 million Playstation Network users' accounts, including credit card information, have been accessed by cyber criminals.

Xbox Live has seen its fair share of phishing scams in the past, but these attempts relied on pretending to be Xbox support and tricking users into giving their information through email.

Stay tuned for updates but, for now, you might want to be wary of playing any Call of Duty titles online.

tl;dr
basically players are getting deranked to negative values where they cant join a game anymore after entering a modded lobby (which are starting to get pretty common now)
they then receive a message over live asking for money as well as their xbl password to reset the stats

it was originally thought this exploit could be used to gain XBL members credit card information via a modded lobby
but no proof has been shown so its assumed false for now

Oh man the "hole" is really getting bigger and bigger now. I hope that XBL won't go down soon. I pay for it and it would be really unfair, at least more unfair than PSN users since theirs is free. It's sad that hackers will go this low and ruin fun for people.

Sharing personal details was never safe in the first place. It's like having your credit card stapled on your shirt while out and about. But it's the only way forward and the only way to get most stuff.

i was watching a commentator who got deranked in CoD4 .
he's been deranked so low that no matter how much EXP he gets , he stays at rank 1 with negative exp . luckily , he still has all his guns .

i haven't been online for a month now , i think i might stick playing offline or better yet , not even bother to play with CoD anymore if these problems are occurring .
