hi!

i have some questions about "wup installer".

i have read / seen some tutorials.

i never used / installed wup installer.

////////////////////

my comprehension is:

-for install and play games, updates, and dlc "no legit", we need a cfw (i will use modcha cfw).

-connect hard drive to wiiu, so that, she can format it in his proprietary format and linked it (unless if i do a factory reset)

-retrieve encrypted version of games/updates/dlc (*.app/*.h3/...)

-put games/updates/dlc "legit and no legit" on sdcard (fat32)

-boot on cfw

-install wup installer gx2 "channel" on the nand

-install homebrew launcher "channel" on the nand

-install games/updates/dlc on the nand, or on the hard drive (my choice will be hard drive)

-put the files like this on the sdcard:
"\install\00050000101C9500\*.app"
"\install\00050000101C9500\*.h3"
"\install\00050000101C9500\*.*"

-after installed, launch the games directly from the main menu of the wii u (if legit)
-after installed, after starting cfw, launch the games directly from the main menu of the wii u (if no legit)

////////////////////

my setup:

-wii u v5.5.1 PAL 32go / haxchi exploit / mocha CFW

-i have the games in *.wud format
zelda breath of the wild PAL.wud (venom repack)
xenoblade chronicles x PAL.wud (abstrakt)

-i have the updates/dlc in encrypted form
xenoblade chronicles x PAL v16/v1.0.1 (wii u download helper)
zelda breath of the wild PAL v208/v1.5.0 (wii u download helper)
zelda latest dlc pack PAL (wii u download helper)

-i do not want download again the games/updates/dlc

-i can extract *.wud files with discu

////////////////////

my questions:

1- what are the different versions of wup installer AND their differences (options/stability/uses) (i know these are forks)

/////

2- is it obligatory to install the wup installer channel? is it possible to not install it, but only run it with elf on sdcard? (i prefer with sdcard)

/////

3- is it obligatory to install the homebrew launcher channel? is it possible to not install it, but only run it with elf on sdcard? (i prefer with sdcard)

/////

4- on the sdcard, is the name of the folder is case sensitive?

zelda bow example:

"\install\00050000101C9500\"

"\install\00050000101C9500\"

"\install\00050000101C9500 Update v33\"

"\install\00050000101C9500 Update v33\"

/////

6- is there a special format/name of files/folders for include updates, i do not understand well?

/////

5- what is the format/name of files/folders for include dlc, i do not understand well?

"\install\????????????????"

/////

6- is it obligatory to install the homebrew launcher in cfw mode? what are the consequences if i do not?

/////

7- is it obligatory to install the wup installer channel in cfw mode? what are the consequences if i do not?

/////

8- is it obligatory to install game/updates/dlc legit in cfw mode? (not launch) what are the consequences if i do not?

/////

9- is it obligatory to install game/updates/dlc no legit in cfw mode? (not launch) what are the consequences if i do not?

/////

10- is it obligatory to launch game/updates/dlc legit in cfw mode? (not install) what are the consequences if i do not?

/////

11- is it obligatory to launch game/updates/dlc no legit in cfw mode? (not install) what are the consequences if i do not?

/////

12- for the tik files, where to put them, under what names? various tips? (i do not request download links)

/////

13- any advice to give me, rules to follow, which I must not do ..., for avoid brick

/////

14- what are the errors that can brick the console?

thks

I Will try to answer the questions that I think I'm right, but I haven't used It for a long time

2- I think no, I use It as a homebrew in the HBL

3-When I install the Games I used the HBL from web browser without Installing it

7- I think that is not

8- DLCs yes, Games no Updates can't remember

10- DLCs yes , Games no, Updates idk

13- To get DLCs, Games etc utikhelper is the best app for me (for Desktop)

All about I Talk is my own experience (in 5.5.1) and as I haven't used the Wii U for a long time If someone Tell you other thing or you find other things trust them

1 -
to know the differences, read their readme or release threads?
use WUP installer GX2 (graphic interface), or WUP installer Y mod (no graphic interface).

2 - 3- :
no you don't need to install any homebrew !
Launch the homebrew_launcher from haxchi channel.

oh, and, by the way, don't use Mocha to get CFW !!
you already have haxchi cfw.
launch haxchi channel with patch mode (instead of homebrew launcher mode). You know, read haxchi readme to learn how it works.

4 - 5 - 6-
when you don't know : try ?
when you don't know : use lowercase, always?

/install/ <-- this one is like that.

/install/WHATEVER you WANT here, but no accent to special characters !/
/install/Zelda DLC/ <-- WHATEVER YOU WANT ! if you want, you don't need the numbers
/install/00050000101C9500/ <--- if you want, you don't need the text, but it's hard to know what you will install without it
/install/00050000101C9500 Update v33/ or /install/00050000101C9500/, or /install/Update v33/, or /install/Zelda v33/, or /install/I'm hungry/ they are EXACTLY THE SAME !
use whatever you want !

can't you read the homebrew's readme ? it's always explained.

6 (second time) and 7 :
to install or launch non signed title, you need a cfw.
are homebrew officially signed by nintendo ? so you get your answer : not signed/not legit, you need CFW !

if you don't have CFW, you get an error.

8 to 11:
there's no legit DLC.
you should understand that "legit" means here that the signature is not patched because the data is provided for all consoles (game extracted from a disc, or updates).

You need CFW to install or launch a channel which:
- is a game not extracted from a disc but from eShop (the cfw has signature check and consoleID patched)
- is or contains a DLC (the cfw has signature check and consoleID patched)
- is from another region (the cfw has region free patch)

12 -
/install/whatever you want/title.tik
there's no tip, just put it where it should be!

13 -
to avoid brick, don't hack.

14 -
shutdown the console when installing a game?
shutdown the console when playing a game and it's currently saving the savegame?
never shutdown when it's writing something.
not reading homebrew's readme, not reading homebrew release's first post tutorial and guides?
installing randomly found files on internet?

conclusion :
Just update to 5.5.2 !
don't use Mocha if you don't need it! haxchi is already a CFW.
learn how haxchi is working ! (which button to press to patch the firmware, which button to press to launch the homebrew_launcher)
read homebrew release thread's and the guides. (wup installers, installing games to usb, etc.)
read stickies.(what is haxchi?, for example)
if you are afraid, don't hack.

1-

"wup installer" only serves to install games, either it does it well, either it does it badly

if it did well, the wii u will be able to run the games correctly

am i right?

which are the "wup installer" the most used, the most stable, the most advised?

cli or gui, not a problem for me.

my uses:
-games same region as the console (PAL)
-updates
-dlc
-games on usb (and maybe on sdcard, i would like to have an alternative way "if possible")

2_3-

"wup installer" proposes to install the "wup installer channel" and the "homebrew launcher channel" but:
-it is not necessary in order to use "wup installer".
-it is not necessary in order to install games.

am i right?

when the "exploit haxchi" installs, it also installs automatically his "cfw haxchi" without launching it.

am i right?

launch haxchi channel with patch mode (instead of homebrew launcher mode). You know, read haxchi readme to learn how it works.

content of a haxchi "config.txt"

b=sysmenu
default=wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/homebrew_launcher.elf

sysmenu = wiiu reset > haxchi cfw > wii u menu > system version says "99.99.99"

https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-community-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.451297/

section "2. INSTALL AN ENTRY POINT (HOMEBREW LAUNCHER)"

If you hold "B" when launching HaxChi you will boot into a Custom FirmWare (CFW) that is region free and will play all unsigned titles. It will just take you back to the Wii U system menu but you'll know you're inside a CFW if your system version says "99.99.99"

am i right?

if:
A- power on wii u
B- launch with "haxchi exploit" sysmenu ("haxchi cfw") (option "b")
C- launch with "haxchi exploit" homebrew launcher (option "default")
->is it the effects of "haxchi cfw" will be will always be present during step "C"?

i'm not against using the "haxchi cfw", i'm progressing little by little. i understand that mocha cfw does duplicate.

4-

i'm read several tutorials, some with capital letters, others with lower case, i planned to use lower case

my understanding is:

zelda botw PAL example:
/install/00050000101c9500/*.app (the syntax is important or not ???)
/install/00050000101c9500/*.* (the syntax is important or not ???)
/install/ze update/*.app (the syntax is not important)
/install/ze update/*.* (the syntax is not important)
/install/ze dlc/*.app (the syntax is not important)
/install/ze dlc/*.* (the syntax is not important)

xenoblade x PAL example:
/install/00050000101c4C00/*.app (the syntax is important or not ???)
/install/00050000101c4C00/*.* (the syntax is important or not ???)
/install/xen update/*.app (the syntax is not important)
/install/xen update/*.* (the syntax is not important)
/install/xen dlc/*.app (the syntax is not important)
/install/xen dlc/*.* (the syntax is not important)

am i right?

is the character """ _ """" authorized?

6_7-

if:
A- i install with "wup installer" correctly game/update/dlc
B- power off/on wiiu
C- forget to launch "haxchi exploit"
D- forget to launch "cfw"
E- launch game
F- i'm just going to have an error (no brick)
G- power off/on wiiu
H- launch "haxchi exploit"
I- forget to launch "cfw"
J- launch game
K- i'm just going to have an error (no brick)
L- power off/on wiiu
M- launch "haxchi exploit"
N- launch "cfw"
O- launch game correctly

am i right?

8_11-

my understanding is:

launch cfw > ... > wup installer > install game
launch cfw > ... > wup installer > install update
launch cfw > ... > wup installer > install dlc

launch cfw > wiiu menu > play game (with or without update, with or without dlc)

am i right?

12-

-i have the games in *.wud format
zelda breath of the wild PAL.wud (venom repack)
xenoblade chronicles x PAL.wud (abstrakt)

-i have the updates/dlc in encrypted form
xenoblade chronicles x PAL v16/v1.0.1 (wii u download helper)
zelda breath of the wild PAL v208/v1.5.0 (wii u download helper)
zelda latest dlc pack PAL (wii u download helper)

A- i extract the wud files (without decrypt them) with discu 4.1b
B- i put wud extracted but no decrypted on sdcard
C- i put update not decrypted on sdcard
D- i put dlc not decrypted on sdcard
E- i use "wup installer"

in this setup, i do not need to do additional thing with title.tik (no add, no replace, no edit, no remove)

am i right?

13-

ok, i was doubting it a little bit

14-

ok, i was doubting it a little bit

conclusion:

i'm not scared, i am very careful

i just want to know what i'm doing, why i have to do it this way and not differently. follow a tutorial is easy, but it does not always possible to understand what we do. i just do not want to make big mistakes (brick) (small mistakes, it does not bother me)

tks

I told you, WUP installer GX2 or WUP installer y mod.

"wup installer" proposes to install the "wup installer channel" and the "homebrew launcher channel" but:
-it is not necessary in order to use "wup installer".
-it is not necessary in order to install games.

am i right?
WUP installer doesn't propose anything.
it lists files you have on your SD:/install/<whatever>/ folders
if it "propose" the one you said, it's because you have them on your SD card in the expected folders.
you don't need them !

when the "exploit haxchi" installs, it also installs automatically his "cfw haxchi" without launching it.

am i right?
the "exploit haxchi" doesn't install itself. you install Haxchi channel over a NDS game.
the channel contains two mode : sysmenu patcher, or homebrew launcher. haxchi is never launched automatically, you click on it when you want.

->is it the effects of "haxchi cfw" will be will always be present during step "C"?
yes, until you shutdown the console.

am i right?
is the character """ _ """" authorized?
you are wrong? use WHATEVER FOLDER NAME YOU WANT. there's no "good" choice or good way to name it. choose a name easy for you to understant. Do you understand random letters and numbers ? good for you. if not, rename it to something you understand!
who do you know /install/00050000101c9500/ is xenoblade ?
rename it to /install/xenoblade_full_game/ isn't it easier ?

H- launch "haxchi exploit"
I- forget to launch "cfw"
why would you launch "haxchi exploit" then ? you mean launch the homebrew launcher? to do what ?
you don't "launch the exploit", you either "patch the FW" or "launch HBL".

A- i install with "wup installer" correctly game/updates/
D- forget to launch "cfw"
E- launch game
F- i'm just going to have an error (no brick)
you don't need CFW for games without DLC.

8_11-

my understanding is:

launch cfw > ... > wup installer > install game
launch cfw > ... > wup installer > install update
launch cfw > ... > wup installer > install dlc

launch cfw > wiiu menu > play game (with or without update, with or without dlc)

am i right?
wrong.

wup installer > install game or update (no CFW needed ! but works fine if you have it)
play game (no CFW needed ! but works fine if you have it)

CFW > WUP installer > install DLC
CFW > launch game with DLC

DO NOT LAUNCH the CFW multiple times ! once it's launched, it's stay in memory until you shutdown the console!

again :
update to 5.5.2
launch CFW when you need it.
rename the folder like you prefer
try it
that's all !

I told you, WUP installer GX2 or WUP installer y mod.

"WUP installer y mod" (original software)
"WUP installer GX2" (fork + gui)

understood.

WUP installer doesn't propose anything.
it lists files you have on your SD:/install/<whatever>/ folders
if it "propose" the one you said, it's because you have them on your SD card in the expected folders.
you don't need them !

i will not install them, i try to have my sysnand as clean as possible.

the "exploit haxchi" doesn't install itself. you install Haxchi channel over a NDS game.
the channel contains two mode : sysmenu patcher, or homebrew launcher. haxchi is never launched automatically, you click on it when you want.

once we have install "exploit haxchi channel", the "haxchi cfw" is in the "haxchi channel":
-we can launch "haxchi channel" with haxchi cfw ("sysmenu")
-we can launch "haxchi channel" without haxchi cfw (other modes)

am i right?

rename it to /install/xenoblade_full_game/ isn't it easier ?

i do not know what is accepted or not by the console and wup installer.

-windows is not case sensitive
-linux is case sensitive
-windows do not like "special characters" with the DOS commands
-windows do not like "spaces" with the DOS commands
-windows do not like names too long
...

i'm just asking what is allowed to do, i note that it is quite permissive.

it is certain that putting the name of the game is clearer.

for dlc, that's for sure, they are not named in connection with the name of the game???

for updates, that's for sure, they are not named in connection with the name of the game???

A- i install with "wup installer" correctly game/update/dlc
B- power off/on wiiu
C- forget to launch "haxchi exploit"
D- forget to launch "cfw"
E- launch game
F- i'm just going to have an error (no brick)
G- power off/on wiiu
H- launch "haxchi exploit"
I- forget to launch "cfw"
J- launch game
K- i'm just going to have an error (no brick)
L- power off/on wiiu
M- launch "haxchi exploit"
N- launch "cfw"
O- launch game correctly

H- launch "haxchi exploit"
I- forget to launch "cfw"

why would you launch "haxchi exploit" then ? you mean launch the homebrew launcher? to do what ?
you don't "launch the exploit", you either "patch the FW" or "launch HBL".

by thinking about it, it's stupid. -_-'''

it's just to know if error in "F" will brick the console or not (game with dlc).

it's just to know if error in "F" will brick the console or not (game without dlc). -> you answered lower than no error, the game will launch.

you don't need CFW for games without DLC.

to avoid mistakes, i think i'll always launch it.

wrong.

wup installer > install game or update (no CFW needed ! but works fine if you have it)
play game (no CFW needed ! but works fine if you have it)

CFW > WUP installer > install DLC
CFW > launch game with DLC

-power on...
-wup installer = install game + update (no cfw needed for install the game + update, but works fine with it)
-power off -> power on -> play game

-power on...
-cfw > wup installer = install dlc
-power off -> power on -> cfw -> play game dlc

if a dlc is launched without cfw, it is a simple error, or a brick?

there is something i do not understand well about installing games "without dlc"; i launch "haxchi exploit" without cfw, i launch "homebrew launcher", i launch "wup installer", i install game without dlc; how? the wiiu is not sign patched, she should refuse to install? no?

DO NOT LAUNCH the CFW multiple times ! once it's launched, it's stay in memory until you shutdown the console!

content of a haxchi "config.txt"

default=wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/homebrew_launcher.elf
b=sysmenu

if cfw launched multiple time is a brick risk?

if:
A- power on
B- haxchi "b"
C- haxchi "default"
D- haxchi "default"
E- haxchi "default"
...

no problem?

no brick. you can't brick without CBHC ! haxchi does not brick. stop worrying.

there is something i do not understand well about installing games "without dlc"; i launch "haxchi exploit" without cfw, i launch "homebrew launcher", i launch "wup installer", i install game without dlc; how? the wiiu is not sign patched, she should refuse to install? no?
that's the thing. game disc work on ALL consoles (you can lend it to your friend, it will work fine, you can resell it, etc.), they are not tied to a specific consoleID (unlike games bought on eShop). so, you don't need to edit the ticket (to put your consoleID in it), so no need to resign the ticket because it's not modified, and its signature is good and official.

Disc game > Good ticket (no consoleID, work on all console) -> no need of CFW
eshop game > modified ticket (delete the consoleID to work on all consoles) -> need CFW with signature patch.
Actually, the CFW is preventing the check of the ConsoleID, so it can install on your console.

that's why "disc based games" don't need CFW. only games from eshop.
updates don't have a ConsoleID, they work on all consoles because it's free. Only paid eShop data is tied to a specific console.

if cfw launched multiple time is a brick risk?
it crashes, or freeze.
NO BRICK WITH HAXCHI.
stop worrying now.

you mean, the one I already answered, the one you understood, but want confirmation that you understood what I already answered?

just try ! you'll see by yourself.

like for example :

i do not know what is accepted or not by the console and wup installer.

-windows is not case sensitive
-linux is case sensitive
-windows do not like "special characters" with the DOS commands
-windows do not like "spaces" with the DOS commands
-windows do not like names too long

if you use incompatible characters, you'll get an error NO BRICK !
if you use compatible characters, it will work.

And.... if you fear that some characters don't work ... Why would you want a list ? just use A-Z a-z and 0-9 !
is that hard to tell yourself to use simple letter and numbers? "I suspect other characters don't work, but .... I still want to use random and weird non ASCII characters anyway instead of just .... I don't know.... NOT USING THEM ! because, I like complication !"
why would you want to make your life harder by wanting to use non standard letters ? and if you really really like doing that, just try by yourself and see if it works or not. I already told you : no accent !

once we have install "exploit haxchi channel", the "haxchi cfw" is in the "haxchi channel":

am i right?

is it certain that the folder of a "dlc" can be named completely differently than the folder of the game to which it is linked?

so, you really want to be sure that what I told you is true? just in case I said something wrong?
why do you want confirmation of what I told you already ?

is it certain that the folder of a "<whatever>" can be named completely differently than the folder of the <whatever> to which it is linked?
again, this is what I told you.
so, you want me to re-tell you what you understood of what I told you ?

USE WHATEVER FOLDER NAME YOU WANT !
can't say it more clearer.
the folder name HAS NO LINK TO ANY OTHER THING YOU INSTALL.

..... cause any problem?
I already replied : try, and you'll see ! if the console freeze or crash : JUST REBOOT ! IT WILL NOT BRICK

the reason why i have doubts for majs / dlc folders is:

loadiine format zelda pal example:

\games\name_game_what_we_want [ALZP01]\code\
\games\name_game_what_we_want [ALZP01]\content\
\games\name_game_what_we_want [ALZP01]\meta\
\games\name_game_what_we_want [ALZP01]\updates\v64\code\
\games\name_game_what_we_want [ALZP01]\updates\v64\content\
\games\name_game_what_we_want [ALZP01]\updates\v64\meta\

everything is in the same folder, it's clean and understandable.

wud installer format zelda pal example:

\install\what_we_want_name_game\
\install\what_we_want_name_dlc\
\install\what_we_want_name_update\

in this situation:
-how the console knows what dlc goes with which game?
-how the console knows what update goes with which game?

the console makes the link between all folders "game folder" "dlc folder" "update folder" using the meta.xml from each "\meta\" folder?

it's only that, that i can not understand well.
