okay, sometimes my mouse will jump to a different location while typing, making it extremely difficult to type. I have touchfreeze, which unsed to work, but now it doesn't. I've seen some suggestions, such as disabling the touch pad, but will that be a problem if all I have is a mouse, which may or may not fail at some point? thanks

If you keep accidentally touching your touchpad, then I would turn it off for now and turn it back on when you need it (depending on the computer, some have a physical button to change that, some don’t)

Since you said touchpad, I assume it's a laptop. Why are you touching the touchpad while typing? Perhaps you should just learn to type properly, since unless it's a REALLY weird layout on your laptop model, any even-remotely correct form of typing should never have you touching there, I mean, laptops are designed most of the time with such problems in mind...

But anyway, just disable the touchpad if it's really that problematic to you, then even if the mouse were to not work (eg: no battery or whatever), if it's a Windows system it can be controlled 100% using just the keyboard. Using Alt commands, Tab, Windows and since it's a laptop even Fn should be more than enough to have full use of it without ever needing the mouse, meaning you can still re-enable the touchpad when you need it:P

I've typed on well over 100 laptops, NEVER had any sort of issues where I was accidentally touching the touchpad, so I wouldn't call that BS. You'll only hit the touchpad if you rest your hands on the laptop's front shield using your wrists, even though you should never rest your wrists when typing (use the round muscles at the base of the palms to relax your hands by having them gently push towards the rim of the case as you are typing with your palms and fingers arching over where the touchpad should be). I didn't mean the 10 finger writing, you don't really need to do that, I meant the hand positioning. For typing I'll hardly use all fingers for example, but when typing the ONLY thing that moves are my fingers.

I ended up turning off the touchpad while a mouse is present. I actually didn't even know there was that option. my problem is my hands have become jittery, so it's difficult to type without my finger(s) pushing the wrong button. my doctor thinks that I might have brain damage, due to binge drinking for many years. I've had an ultrasound, cat scan, and as of today, an mri. because of this, it's extremely difficult to walk or to stand. I constantly drop things including my controllers. that's why I went all digital with the switch. I didn't want to drop the system.

Some laptop designs make it near impossible to not touch the touchpad while typing. I have a cheap old Lenovo and I ended up just disabling the touchpad altogether.

It could be argued that posture could also change your typing form, but that mostly depends on what type of chair you have and if it’s at an appropriate height for your desk.

Regardless of the reasons, if you have a habit of your palm touching the touchpad whilst typing (and if automatic palm rejection isn’t working as it should), then the solution is to disable the touchpad and use an external mouse.

These days I always use my MX Master 2S as an external mouse for any laptop because of the excellent ergonomics.
