Ever heard of reading? It says the video is by Jeb, one of the other Minecraft developers. Notch doesn't post about mods in detail, and if he did, he would say it's a mod.

Very little very late. Minecraft's updates have made the game slow to a crawl for me and is now basically unplayable on my high-end but multi-core computer. Even with a batch of settings tweaks Minecraft needs new engine optimizations as badly as new content which could tmodded in anyway if the modding tools were good enough.
