Ok cool, another question though: if I play my regular sun and moon online on one SD card and then play the randomized edition on a different SD card offline, would that be safe as well?
No one can tell you exact correct answer since no one still know for what exactly consoles have been banned. But if you turn off streetpass you should be fine. Also I think Nintendo won't do another ban wave, since 3DS is slowly dying so they will be more focusing on Switch.
