I have a SSD that I boot from and I was wondering if I could move %APPDATA% from the SSD. There are programs dumping files in there that I do not want on there that I can not change. I know it would be better to get a better drive, but this is the next best thing.

Well I thought it was in Environment Variables, but it isn't on mine.
Hmmm...
*follows thread*
but i think you can create it... i also thought that if you wanted to change it would be in environment variables...

OP, if you can't find a way to change it using normal ways, well, maybe you could try a workaround using the old trick of mounting a folder under ntfs in another disk..

I was going to try that, but I was hoping to find a more elegant fix to this so that it is not a per-account basis.

Unfortunately every user has an appdata folder, and it seems like it's not as simple as changing it for every user at once... unless you want to change the location of the entire Users folder, so that for any user C:\Users\<username>\AppData becomes D:\Users\<username>\AppData, etc. Obviously this is less than ideal but it's a solution nonetheless.

That would work.

Google is nifty. Also, if you move the "Users" folder to another location, you're gonna have a bad time.
Microsoft said:
By changing the default location of the user profile directories or program data folders to a volume other than the system volume, you cannot service your Windows installation. Any updates, fixes, or service packs cannot be applied to the installation. We recommend that you do not change the location of the user profile directories or program data folders.
Moving the "Roaming" folder is safe, but moving the others will cause problems.

I've moved my users folder before, and it seems to be pretty broken. Only some stuff gets properly moved, but most program still save to the old location. I'm not sure why or how to fix it.

Welp.

Guess I should just get a bigger SSD if it becomes a problem.
