64bit requires 2GB RAM so yes there would be problems. You either have the RAM installed during Win 7 installation or install 32-bit now and 64bit later.

I've never tried having below the minimal amounts but it's possible it'll spit out an error message during the beginning of installation or just might give you problems once its done.

You can still install Windows 7 even without the "requirements".

I don't know about 64-bit, but I ran Windows 7 32-bit with 512MB of Ram, 64MB video card, and all that good stuff.

It ran okay.

With 1GB of ram, Your so much better off with Windows XP, however, the 32-bit version of Windows 7 would run "ok". i have 1.5GB of ram and i regret upgrading to Windows 7, not as easy to play games anymore due to windows 7 requiring more ram for itself. if your using XP now, keep using it, thats my suggestion. if your having problems with it, or its too slow, reinstall it, not Windows 7. Get more ram first.

Tiny7. That's all I can say.

Or upgrade now. But don't go over 4GB of memory unless you don't use a lot of it.

That's right. If you only use over 4GB occasionally, it'll be safe to turn off the pagefile, and your system will ZOOM.

@ Ben_j: Your first 2 suggestions don't apply if he has a video card.
