Sorry if this sounds like an advertisement, but Microsoft are doing a student promotion in the UK.

http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/studentoffer/

University Students in the UK are entitled to pre-order Windows 7 for just £30, all they need is their university email account. (Mine is @myport.ac.uk)
In contrast, everyone else is allowed to pre-order it for £70, and full price after launch will be around £140.

I like to share the good word.

Any news about whether the aussie discount is available yet?

Found some info that aussie discount will exist http://www.crn.com.au/News/156335,microsof...7.aspx#comments

But can't see anywhere on if preorder is available yet or not. UK and US websites have gone up already

won't be able to order until Oct. 22.

I think I've found a flaw in their email registration.

Portsmouth University uses Google Mail to provide their uni-mail, accounts are given in this format:
cam#####@myport.ac.uk
The prefix is their account for everything. However, you can substitute the account name for the student name.
[email protected]

In other words, it looks like I could actually use both my email addresses (which is really just one account) to pre-order TWO copies of Win 7!
Think it's legal?

I can do the same Rupee and I'd say it would work fine. I'd much rather pay a bit more and get the ultimate version and be done with it - student and home editions have always pissed me off.

Hopefully this promo comes to Aus as it'll probably be the first OS I've bought in a long time... (~Win 95 days). ~$75 for a copy certainly ain't bad...

EDIT: Also for those in the US, you can get it for $30 here- http://www.win741.com/ Just go to the buy link at the bottom.

QUOTEHow many copies of Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional can I order?

Eligible students are allowed to purchase one copy of either Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional from the online store.

and they have the right to charge you the full amount for windows 7 if they find you breaking their TOS on top of that
