Gaming Windows 7 and Steam, Skype, etc, weird Mic problem.

Greetings.

I am having a problem with my microphone being heard by Steam. I have gone to the Windows 7 microphone settings, and even temporarily enabled "Listen to this device" so I could verify that it was working.

However, when I go to Steam > Settings > Voice and enable Test Microphone, it doesn't seem to register.

The correct microphone is selected under "Recording (audio input) device:".

The same problem persists for Skype and Audacity.

What must I do to fix this?

well maybe your drive isn't a driver for windows 7 make sure you have the latet drive and try other audio programs like team speak or watherever just to make sure if is a problems whith the mic,or the programs

Does it work with Windows Speech?

If the input volume level is set to zero, then applications can't hear it.

My mic from like the 80's worked fine with Win7, Plug & Play.

EDIT: Forgot to mention it uses a Mic port, not USB. If yours uses USB, try updating/getting drivers or getting a Mic jack mic.

Is the mic connected before the program starts? (most likely an issue if USB)

I know if I plug in my headset after a game has launched; it is not used. Though mine is technically a USB one as it's plugged into my gaming keyboard which is USB. Windows will set the USB mic as default, but the game once loaded doesn't recognize the change.
