I'm relocating overseas soon and need to bring my laptop for work but it's not worth bringing my Switch as well. To my understanding, games which require FW 19.0 or higher simply won't work on the emulators.

If your PC can handle Switch emulation, you can get most games that are on Switch on PC, and most of the exclusive Switch games are already available to be emulated. Switch is most likely in it's last year so you won't miss out on a whole lot.

Also we can't say for sure which games are going to work and not work going forward, Sonic X Shadow Generations is working on Suzu and it's just coming out now. It just depends if the games need work from the emulator creators to work or not. The firmware is not necessarily the issue because the emulator can just accept new firmware. It's if the games are ready to play or not. Obviously no work will be done to get them working.

Maybe they will get some fixes for more popular exclusives like Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood, Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Yuzu did get fan patches for Tears of the Kingdom while the devs waited for its official release to begin working on it. Not expecting many updates going forward though.

Where did you get this from (19.0 not working)?
Afaik there is no game or update that needs FW19.0, not Sonic X Shadow not the new Echoes of Wisdom patch etc

Why wouldn't they ?

Considering the work that was put in Yuzu and Ryujinx and how both (but Ryujinx a bit more) were able to run many games day one without too much work, I have no doubt that these will run.

It's the end of the Switch's lifespan, there aren't that many big releases to come before the Switch 2, at least I can't think of any despite Metroid Prime 4, and this one is definitely going to be emulated.
Remember when Smash Bros got leaked ? The intro movie couldn't be run by the emulator and because Yuzu and Ryujinx wouldn't work 2 weeks ahead of its release, people had to rely on mods to disable the film to play.

Not only that, but even tho forks do exist right now but with very little steam, it's pretty much a given that when a big release will come, people will jump back to them (I expect Suyu to get at least a little hype when there will be some releases that current ryujinx/yuzu builds can't run)
Maybe I'm wrong because you know ... can't predict the future. It's just normal that things are now much more tame, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's not bound to get better.

It's never going to be « revived » to be as healthy as it was before tho. But this death was bound to happen anyway.

Once Nintendo stops caring about the switch is when switch emulation picks up
