RAM adds MEMORY not speed. You should change your HARD DRIVE.

Depends on what you mean by speed. Having not enough RAM will limit your speed. Most stock computers have very limiting amount of RAM, so adding RAM can greatly increase the speed of which the computer operates at.

Exactly. I would throw in atleast another GB.

There is also a program out for XP now which mimics vistas readyboost. This allows you to use a compatible USB flashdrive as ram. Because flash drives have a quicker access time than the HD, this can add some quick and cheap speed to your machine.


edit: Also, get yourself a registry cleaner. CCleaner is good and free. It will clean up your temp files as well. It's a must have that clears junk off your computer quickly and efficiently.

Can you post a link to this program? And lemme make sure I got this right, I install this program and I can go out and buy, say, a 2 or 4GB flashdrive and it acts as RAM? Kick ass

it just adds more pagefile space
it doesnt really do much of anything, more of a gimmick then anything

Yes. Your 500GB drive is currently with one partition, so you just need to resize the partition and you can make a new one after it. Change your boot device to the second hard drive, toss the XP cd in and go ahead and install to the new partition. Piece of cake.

As it has been said, it only adds to your page file, which can be done without a program if you have a large enough Hard drive. The amount of speed you gain is not that bad, but it doesn't require a program.

Hey guys, sorry I just saw your posts. Yeah here is the name of the program is EBoostr.PRO.v2.0.417 (a cracked version just got released, check your fav sites)

And yeah, it's not like real ram, it won't speed up your boot up or games or anything but since a flashdrive can be accessed at 0.9ms which is much quicker than your HD, it can cache non sequential data and speed things up a bit.

you can also decide how much of the flash drive you wish to devote to this and keep the rest for storage.

edit for westside: the whole point is to not use your HD, though, because for non-sequential data your flashdrive can be accessed much quicker

also I recommend super talent or sandisk for this because they have the quickest access times out of a series of tests if you google around.
