so, I have a modded switch, and it got banned around last year (error code 2124-4508), and now I have this rather unnecessary dread that I'll get banned on switch 2 since I was banned on switch 1.

So I'll ask anyway: will I get banned on the switch 2 (when I get it) if I use my nintendo account that I also used on switch 1?

also side question: I stupidly changed the email of my nintendo account to make a new one, will I be able to use my email once the new account has been permanently deleted or will I have to change the email of the new account to use my email on my current account again?

Quick edit: I've decided I'm going to make a new account for the peace of mind of it all, I've switched the email of my old account to an email I don't use anymore because I want to keep using the email I had for my old account on this new account, I miss out on the games I bought but there's only like, 5 or 6 games I bought that I cared about, Metroid dread which I can easily re-buy, Splatoon 3 which is pretty much dying and will eventually be replaced by the 4th game whenever it comes out (I'm predicting summer next year at the earliest), and then a small handful of indie and third party games that often go on sale for decent prices

I doubt it but why not just make a new account with a new email?
well I do have an old account I had once had on my switch before homebrewing it but unlinked from my console months before putting homebrew on my console, plus there's a couple games I have on my account that while I don't really mind paying for again (especially the indie games that go on sale for decent prices when they do), it's the first party games that are making me reconsider using the unused account I had (Metroid Dread and Splatoon 3) cuz I don't wanna go out and re-spend £50 if that makes sense, I don't really mind paying for them again as I've said but it's something nagging on in my head

What you don't want is to somehow get swept up in a ban wave that happens a year from now just because something was flagged previously.
yeah, and like I said I have an old account I made but never used in my life, all I have to do is change the region from japan to the uk and I'm good to go, though I am considering deleting the account and making a new one just so I can truly start from scratch and have the date of birth be correct on the account (the unused account's DOB is off by 2 years since I was like, 15 when I made the account and now I'm 19 turning 20 this coming november)

I also made a new account using the email of my current account (changed the email of the current one) but tbh idk if that'll work as well as I thought it would when I did it

Generally if you got banned for running pirated software on the Switch it was a hardware ban that keeps you from using online services. People with this sort of ban have bought new Switches and put their accounts on those without getting a new ban on the new Switch. There should be a few posts about it from years ago.

But if you got banned for cheating in an online game they supposedly banned your account also, but I don't know much about that.

That said, I got a hold of Nintendo support and asked if my Switch ban was hardware or account because I preordered a Switch 2 and I don't want any problems connecting my account to it. The rep took my email to check my account, took the error code my switch gives (2123-0011) and said that it looks like it's just a hardware ban and my account is in good standings.

I dont have a banned account, but I thought if you tried connecting online to one of Nintendos mobile games for example (like Mario Kart tour) with an account that cheated on Switch, it wouldnt let you play. I could be wrong though.

They ban consoles, not accounts. They only ban accounts for fraud. You're fine.

Banned accounts are blacklisted among whatever server/service it was banned on regardless of the switch model. So a new account is your best option.

my console is banned, my account is fine for the most part since I can still redeem codes and shit (I redeemed a year of base nso on my account) I'm just asking if I'll get banned going online on the switch 2 since my switch got banned for having homebrew on it

How could ANYONE possibly know this???

I can confirm this. Got banned because my save for the notorious Mario 64 NSP somehow made it into my cloud saves. New Switch, same account and no problems since. I've been using atmosphere since it first released.

Also, I got my golden ticket (Switch 2 Preorder invite) from Nintendo at the beginning of this month. Nintendo would absolutely not do this if i had a black mark next to my name for a console ban.

that's a little more reassuring about this whole thing, cuz I've said while I don't mind paying for the games I bought on my account again on a new account the first party games I have (Metroid Dread and Splatoon 3) are what are making me reconsider the desicion to start a new account cuz I don't wanna pay £100 (£84 if I'm using the game vouchers from switch online) to buy the games again, Especially metroid dread, love that game to death

Dread was definitely a highlight for me too, but i'll need to actually buy it if i want to play it on the Switch 2. Same for Jamboree and a handful of others. My bank account is going to suffer come June!

Also, Metroid Prime remaster. I hope they release 2 and 3 before 4 drops.

I bought metroid dread like half a month after it came out, day after my bday to be exact, same with Splatoon 3 the following year. And then I homebrewed my switch at the end of 2023, system is banned as I've said but my account looks fine for the most part. I can still go on the website with it access the account settings page and connect to apps that require an account (I even got a year of NSO base for the account because of switch 2 pre-orders on my Nintendo, didn't properly read the requirements tho so the next best thing is to go to a retailer or Amazon and pre-order from there)
