Actually, Apple has $47.50 billion and Disney has $63.1 Billion in assets. So in money saved up, Disney > Apple. Apple makes more though.

Jobs is the single largest shareholder in Disney by the way: owning 7% of the company himself (in addition to being on the board of directors).

Love that one. Sums up my views on Jobs totally. And Sony are worth 33bil btw. Apple could probably manage a totally hostile takeover or merger with their war chest and maybe a loan. But it's not going to happen anyway. Jobs doesn't need a failing company of his bailed out.

I was going by total market value.

And that 47.5 of Apples is liquid assets as well. That 63.1 will be disney, all of there IP and properties with probably 8 bil in cash.

Edit the second: Apples current market value is 286 bil

You're the one underestimating Apple.

Currently Sony has enough assets built up that if they did a partial liquidation could fend off a hostile takeover by Apple, however Apple is many times more profitable than Sony and in a couple years could potentially be in position for such a takeover.

That being said, its unllikely to happen because Apple has no reason to want them. Sony is an amalgam of mismanagement and awful product design. They have nothing that would be worth the money nor potential antitrust suits Apple would face.
