For some reason it reminds me of the MSX2 classic " Kings Valley 2 ".

A game made for the PC originally in MSX style, then remade for Wii, and then ported back to PC (available at www.playism-games.com/) I think that the Wii version still does not contain the DLC that JPN got but is available on the PC version, as well as being able to do higher resolution as well.

Still an awesome game and well worth a playthrough.
