sorry, i'm new to console modding...theres no way to flash it with out soldering? so would it be possible to just touch the cable to the port and flash it? i really dont want to solder anything, but i will if i have too.

. Have you seen how small those points are (TSSP)? There is no way that anyone has THAT steady hands

.
well, that depends.... how long would i have to hold it there? i am a deadly ninja assassin, after all...

but seriously, it shouldnt take that long to copy a few lines of code, right? even if you did lose connection, couldnt you just retry, or it one bad connection all it takes to brick it?

I'm not buying a modchip until they lower their prices, a lot. Paying the price for current modchips is stupid as they aren't region free, can't be upgraded (most of them. And wtf is up with the need for an upgrade switch?), and cost ~99 cents to make.

And people argue "it's not the chip but the code on it that you are paying for", except for the fact that none of the people manufacturing the chips have actually done any coding - it's all other peoples work.

Chips will be down to £1-£5 within a couple of months.

You guys think this WiiP chip will actually come to fruition though...? If so, i think i might cancel my Cyclowiz order...

Wow... Never would have picked TCNiSO to get in on the modchip scene... but I'm not suprised with all their experience in assembly that they have the knowledge to do so.

I've been a loyal fan of TCNiSO for years.... this is good news

Or $20 within a few weeks.

Even better, it's $20, shipping included in the price.
I'd actually buy that. :3
Edit - "On board DIP switch (enable/disable mod, enable/disable stealth)" I suppose you'll have to reopen the Wii to use this :\ any way to modify it to work via a switch outside the console?

TCNiso?!?!

Never expected to see DerEngel on the WIi scene lol!

Gotta love tcniso

Its tcniso... so its definitly not vaporware... but hey... DerEngel's Book was delayed several times but i think as this is just simple hardware (if anyone would know his ways on assembler, DerEngel would be it) it will be released within the ETA (27/02)

surely if you could just flash your dvd drive via software nintendo could put software on officially released games that flash the console back to normal, or do all kinds of other uncool stuff if it detects it was flashed in the first place... im not the biggest wiz kid on these kinds of things, but even i could see thats a possibility! modchip (anything but the current first gen ones) is definately the way to go, especially if you have to open up your wii and solder regardless.

Well from my understanding, the code is gonna be on the DVD itself and not screw around with the firmware. Kinda like how Dreamcast backups were done. So there would be no need for a modchip. Just burn disc, pop in and play.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. Would be hella awesome though if that could be done.

Some aussie shops are selling wii modchips for AUD$75 and $100.
They can shove those modchips up their !@# !!
I learned my lesson from PS2. No way i'm gonna repeat the same mistake.
What Aussie shops are you talking about?
I haven't been able to find them for sale here at all.

I hven't got time to check now but I am sure that I read that the Wii DVD doesn't have flashable firmware and isn't a candidate for a chipless solution. Pretty sure I have that right. It would also take a lot more development to rewrite a whole firmware al a 360. There doesn't seem to be the same kind of hacking activity by the scene to see this happen just yet.

If the DVD drive's firmware can't be flashed then that means all these modchips will always work, since Nintendo can't patch the drive's firmware to fix the security holes.

You are correct sir. These chips simply inject the code overwriting instructions sent into the DVD Drives ram. Kinda like a gameshark or action replay for those who are not .... technically sound.

so all we will see are dvd chips until somebody can dump/decrypt, and hack at the TSOP/NAND memory on the motherboard and hopefully make some progress.

For example with the NDS, they were eventually able to dump the bios on the ARM7 and ARM9 processors which just so happened to have the encryption keys. Thus they were able to make signed apps, which is why u now see a ton of slot1 devices, before they couldnt do that. I doubt we will have anything more than these chips until u hear about some real progress in that direction. Shortly after you will probably see some FlashWii mods (like FlashMe) which are better than any lil mod chip could ever be.
