If I was a WiiKey programmer and I saw all those people complaining about my product and even stop others from buying it I won't even release an update just to show that you greedy bastards are just being spoiled.
I mean, you can play most games you want right now, you don't even pay anying at all, but you guys are STILL not happy with what you got.

Now I just hope that one of the WiiKey team reads this.

I can understand if u were talking about openwii, people coding for free

But its a company, they are paying coders to keep people away from rivals with new features, updates, better compatibility

WiiKeys are easier to install though, and do the exact same thing. The only time you wouldn't get a WiiKey is if you bought a Wii for gamecube games...

I haven't had much luck in the Nintendo scene...

On my Xbox I got the Xenium modchip from teamxodus and they seemed to be pretty responsive and I don't recall any major issues.

Although, on the Nintendo side I got my DS-X early on (second batch) and have been very disappointed in the communication between the team and customers. It was regarded as the best at the time and had great potential but they screwed up big time.

Then when it came to the Wii I waited for something with import support. The Wiikey is out and regarded as the best at the time. Communication issues. Again! Why am I cursed so?

Although honestly in both cases I'm not really affected. I have had zero problems with my DS-X besides wishing that there was a platform agnostic updater so I could use my (PPC) Mac to update. What I have done in the past is use public XP computers at Uni or use wine on my Linux fileserver. Not the best solution.

For the Wii, all the Wii games I've wanted to play I've been able to, so I'm happy in that regard. I wish I could play some GC games like Wave Race or Ikurga, but for the latter I can always play it on my Dreamcast so it's not a big deal.

Obviously a lot of people do have issues with their games, and the fact that the WiiKey team does not acknowledge these issues is pretty piss-poor of them.


I can't make a modchip so I can't bitch at them for that. However, as a customer I can complain that they are leaving us in the dark.

There is a dude on another website who created a front end to the wiikey iso creation thing, who said he was in contact with the wiikey team about what was going on in the next update so he can keep up with his program but about 2 weeks back he said they've gone quiet and not heard from them since...i wouldnt be suprised to never see anything from them again

Actualy I am getting one saterday. Still does what it needs to do, and that is to play Wii backups from my region. That is all I care about.

Could it be possible that they've delayed the update once more to include D2C support? Sure, it wouldn't help existing users, but I'd say they put the update pre-flashed on all new shipments.

Still, I agree with most of you that giving a date and then missing it by so much time is not very customer friendly. This is why I never give out release dates for the stuff I code

Anyway, if they get some more imports working with their chip, I don't really care how long it takes. I'd be pissed if they release it the day after Trauma Center PAL arrives though, one of the games they said it'd fix...

I will once again just voice my opinion of that it would be nice to see improved Wii Region Free support, but I'm not expecting it. And would also like to see the audio thing settles so I can check out some Gamecube games I never got around to getting to that are in the not working category, but after all I bought a WII MODCHIP, not a Gamecube modchip, so that doesn't matter.

HOWEVER, I'm greatly displeased that my LEGIT GAMES that I BOUGHT do not work AS WELL. I don't have the inputs on my TV for more component cables, and frankly, I shouldn't need them. These games worked 100% fine BEFORE I installed the WiiKey, and was under the impression when buying it that it had built in audio fix. I thought that basically all Gamecube games would work, including the backups. And once again, I wouldn't be that angry if only backups were affected by this, but it's the legit original copies that are affected by it too.

Anyways... I'm done with this post.

Its beginning to look more and more like the wiikey never had an update. They lied about it to sell more wiikeys. Buyer power is the best way to teach them a lesson. Just avoid the wiikey or wait for the update. The wiikey is still a good modchip but its the priciple of them promising an update that has never been delivered. You could also teach them a lesson by buying a cheap clone instead.

i'm no programmer, but how could the update take so long, if it was ever coming at all?
i pay for and installed many wiikey because they were promised to have 'dvd update' feature
if all we can expect, at most, is a new config disc i am regretting supporting wiikey

can i flash wiikeys to a homebrew chip?

i think wiifree and/or wiip.

Theres a lot of drama queens in this thread. If you dont like the product, remove it and switch to another modchip maker. I swear to god, I've been involved in this for so long; and the nintendo related scenes are always filled with such nancies. You guys really need to calm down.

This aint child play, those things have to be tested; would you guys rather have something that works, but works well; of you wanna end up like the girls on the xbox360 that ended up all being detected by Microsoft and promply banned from xbox live?

Just let things be, go outside, enjoy the summer, and the updates will come. It's not worth posting pages and pages of crap, it wont make the testing and coding happen any faster.

After a bit of thinking, one reason that leads me to believe that the update is taking so piss long is because: 1) They need to write code from the bottom up 2) All their code isn't fitting into the chip and they're concerned 3) They are making a UI for better implementation of their tools. Everything that they have is command prompt-based, and its very hard for some noobs to do stuff. I myself am an above average Win XP user, meaning I know how to manipulate my computer. But I personally, am a complete retard when it comes to command prompt, seeing as how i don't generally use it, and the few programs i have written in command prompt require nothing from the user. (Those basic print text to the screen commands) I hope they make a simple-to-use UI that is Wii-based (because easy to use has now been redefined by making everything vista-like) because Wiikey is made for Wii. (As cleverly suggested by its name 'wiikey')

Rubbish. The chip runs on an ATMEGA8L right? OpenWii has open source code to write to such chips. And there's more then enough space on one of those chips.

Updates are not 'made by typing at a command prompt like in windowsXP ', the update will be disc based, as previously stated or lash (FLASHED AS IN THE CODE BURNED TO THE CHIP), 'experts' such as you will have no problems update

The updates are coming.

Why not just give them an accurate review score of the product at the time?

Makes more sense to me than deducting points later because of whatever promises they failed to deliver on. Review what it is, not what it is supposed to be.
