Would it be possible to tape the wires down and use not glue or solder?

not to sound condescending, but to those of you who are asking the questions that you are really shouldn't be attempting this unless you want to blow $250 and go purchase another system. pay and have someone with a proven track record perform the mod for you.

I'd recommend phildafunk on the wiinewz.com forums. he's pioneered the art of not having to expose the traces on the optical drive controller chip and does a fantastic job with his mods.

(ps: I'm not related to or affiliated with the above mentioned person. however, if you've done your homework and read all of the threads on wiinews and here on gbatemp you'd see some examples of his work).

It may be possible to do that. You'd probably need to get some conductive ink to draw on the ic package so that you extend the contact surface to better your connection. I didn't clean the surface when I tried and therefore I couldn't get the ink to draw well. Didn't help that I was using a thick paper clip as well.

im not attempting anything ,ive succesfully modded it IT WORKS ,
