Hacking Wiikey config DVD required?

Is it required to run the wiikey config disc before using backups of same region? And if so it OK to use 1.2 or does one have to use 1.0 first?

You don't have to use the disc update to play same region games.
The disc update is only needed to enable other region.

1.2 just seems to be the 1.1 folders with the iso not yet created, so everyone can add homebrews/roms to it.

I am wondering if after putting the chip in the wii, must I use Wiikey update dvd? Or can I go straight to backups?

you can play back-ups without playing the config disk. You only need it if you want to turn on "region free" option

The 1.0-1.2 config discs only configure the Wiikey options (drive speed, region free, etc). They don't need to be all run or anything like that.

But Monday is supposed to be the day they release the first firmware upgrade. So keep an eye on here for it. I'm sure people will be downloading it like crazy and posting how well it works (or doesn't).
