Well I finally bought my solder iron 25W on saturday, I thought I was all ready even if the wiikey was tiny.
In the end, I really botched up the install, thought quicksolder install was the easiest way and now you can see for yourself.
Luckily it still reads originals so all's not lost. Btw it is a GC2-DMS, no cut legs etc...

I really need to get this wiikey working because it really would be a waste of money since buying the solder, wiikey and gecko sd adapter.
I was prepared

Oh dear. I would defo say you should have tried a wire install, but its too late now!

Anyway it looks repairable.. PM me if you like, although it would have to be postal.. im in hastings.

Well I sent you a pm thanks for replying.
Still wonderring why no one replies on the forums when there's like 3 people viewing each thread =/
Lurkers xD
*sigh* Should of asked professional help first =/

Well... Why did you use that much solder?.

And now just suck it up and try again.

Tips:
Pre tin all the areas before soldering.
DONT solder the 2 big holes first only the 4 connectors.

Doesn't look too bad, I am sure that if you find someone local they will have no problems repairing it.

with some solder sucker you can repair this install. why dont you take the drive to some electronic store and ask if they can fix it for you.

Yeah I'll go looking around, still not sure which one though.
Hopefully none of my solder pads will rip off

not bad at all compared to the others. desolder braid or a bulb to suck it out. don't rip at the pad and dont heat too much

I'm having second thoughts about desoldering and re-doing the job...
I'mma pop in to my local store and buy some braid.
Seems pretty easy.
What'd you guys recommend... Long wire/short wire install?

Long wire is easier.

When you get your braid practise on something old first, as with soLdering wires too. Any old pc cards, radios ect will do.

tip... put solder on wire first (take your time to get a good bead on it), then put wire on joint then try to heat the solder on the wire and the joint at the same time, then as soon as it melts withdraw iron (never hold on iron on a point for long) and hold wire dead still for @5 seconds until the joint soldifies and hardens.

PRACTISE!! It's so much nicer to go into a job knowing for certain you can do it... even if you have to practise an hour a day for a week, it's well worth it.

here's a great guide... http://soldering.tehskeen.com/
