To be honest I do not know much about what makes a good burn, I was under the impression the slower the burn speed the better the burn and the less chance of errors.
Initial researching from a number of sites I read that ideally a 4x burn is what is accepted as the recommended speed for minimal fails.
This is all good info for me and hopefully others, as for informations sake I am using a HP Laptop to do all my burning (could it be the burner itself, although it does do alot of other burns with no issues ?).
Now that I have so many pretty coffee coasters, I am hoping it was the burn speed so I don't run into this fail rate in another month or so.
I assume at the price the cleaning kit is only for discs and not for the wii laser, and with some of these games only seeing the light of day for a quick test there was almost no marks on the disc face whatsoever.
I did the last couple of burns at 6x as recommended by pintscc, so the thought is to maybe pump it up to 8x or 12x?
actually from wat i've seen of it at stores it seems to be a lens cleaner

Well, I have a batch of 7-8games burnt on TDK discs, and suddenly, they stopped working. Even if I put the discs on the PC to try to make an ISO from it, it can't.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got this problem. I think it is: 1) Bad series of disc, 2)Bad burns that made the discs unreadable after 1year (strange but its the case).
I re-downloaded the games and put it on DVD RW and they works, so it's clearly the discs that are corrupted.

If you have a similar problem, just put the disc in you PC DVD drive and try to make an ISO. If it works, its your Wii, if it don't, it's your disc.

Wow. That. Is. Bizzare!!

I never knew blank DVDs could "loose their pits"...? I have never had an issue with games on my Wii, execpt for when I upgraded then downgrading fixed it.

And my DVD burner is getting more confusing... It'll burn DVDs (SONY and Imation -R) flawlessly! (If I have no other applications running.) But it struggles to read bought DVDs?? I usually watch movies on my PC but yeah, its having troubles reading them.

A slow speed is recommended and IMGburn with no other applications running. Well, now I know its not the downgrade, I'd look at how you are burning them.

I learnt early on that burnt audio cds could lose there data after years depending on the quality of media and device but I am with you BBking83, DVDs losing there data within a month is just crazy talk as far as I'm concerned, but its all I got at the moment ! As for your burner issues, another one to rack up, wish I could help!
The burn speed issue is a wide debate it seems depending on which thread you read. I am going to stick with pintscc suggestion of 6x cause it kind of makes sense seeming the Wii reads at this speed and as with BB I use IMGBurn and try never to run applications whilst burning but I am going to start using my desktop Pioneer over my HP's Tsstcorp DVD drive.
Hey Jeremiz, I will check that out tonight that will be an interesting test.
Thanks again for all the suggestions and comments

Hmm... Does your laptop/PC read the burnt ones okay? 1x or 2x is the speed I use. Takes 30mins to an hour to burn.

I don't mind the wait!

But yeah, seems as though its your media?? Ahh well, good luck!

One of the first things id try would certainly be downgrading to 3.2 in that situation. A lot of that trucha-signing and other crap comes along on higher firmwares

Will check out if it reads them tonight, but I have been told slower burning is not always better and sometimes even worse, which I was not aware of.
The thing I am learning most is that its all pretty individual based upon your gear so if its not broken theres no need to fix it, and I just have to find my settings that work. (I Hope)
I have successfully downgraded to 3.2E and unfortunately no cigar, the only winner at the moment is a reburn and I am eyeing off Sunday for a complete collection reburn unless something better arises.
At the moment I am leaning to the burn over the media, I kinda have to otherwise I have over 150 Verbatim DVD-Rs that aren't worth a scrap to me.

*Update*

Two new points of interest, firstly the Madden Nfl game I reburnt is already displaying issues (a Tsstcorp/6x burn) and secondly my computer does not recognise any iso image on the new or old discs, but it won't burn anything onto it.

Will try my pioneer next, if that doesn't work has to be the Verbatims??

In Conclusion
The only thing I can be sure of is that it was one of two things - Media or Burn
It will be trial and error from here on, but thanks to anyone who contributed info it all helped.
Cheers.

It really depends on your media, I spose?

Best thing for you to do is, and seeing as you have 150 DVDs, is to do tests yourself at different speeds and see when you get the best results and stick to that speed?

Might take a while but at least you'll be able to solve your problem?

The best place to get TY discs in Australia is JPL Displays.

Though - I've found my wii has more trouble reading TYG03 than it does with the more bread and butter MIDs... CMCMAG / MCC.

Definately burn using a full size Pioneer drive with the latest firmware. This will give you the best odds. Keep your discs out of the sun too!

I'd recommend burning at the rated speed.

Just an update that may help someone in the future.
On the weekend just past I decided to reburn some more games using my Pioneer, (I wanted to wait a month to check if it was the media that was failing, GOW2 kept me entertained) at the recommended speeds with the recommended media. After choosing 6 or so games I decided one last time to throw the games in the Wii to make sure they aren't still working, and guess what they magically were! Keeping in mind I had checked them numerous times after I had downgraded FW and update the wiikey.
I then proceeded to check all of the originally non working games and every one bar 2 worked - Kung Fu Panda and Eledees/Elebits. This is where my reasoning steps out the door cause I haven't the knowledge to understand why, but after I tried unsuccessfully to run Eledees again and rebooted the Wii - no other game would work.
It was only after I powered down from the wall that my back up discs would work.
Now I know I rebooted from the wall numerous times originally as sometimes the Wii would freeze and this would be the only way, so I know I am missing something and I know the Eledees back up has something to do with it all, but as to what I have no idea?
I am happy to say though because of my caution I only threw away 6 perfectly good back ups and didn't waste all those Verbatims I purchased.
If anyone has anything to offer I would appreciate your thoughts !
