Hacking wii u

I'm confused and new to wii u. I'm on 5.3.2 and am looking to load iso from a usb. can this be done I don't want to do it from a sd card. also do I need a game in the wii u when playing with loadiine or a usb. thanks

No USB - only SD card
You only need a game in if the game you are loading requires Smash - otherwise it uses Mii maker.

In theory, you can use USB flash drive using Mobidapter:

I have one and have not even tried it for flash drives. However using it even with a self powered hard drive is a no go. Also iso loading solution does not exist or at least not available for the end users yet.

There are whole threads dedicated to the discussion of this device. I don't think it ever worked for USB hard drives and loadiine.
