Didn't want to make a new topic but I'm considering a Wii U next year and one of the thing I'm interested is the ability to play Wii U games on the Gamepad without the need for a TV. Is this feature as good as everyone says or is playing it on HDTV the best way?

Depends. The amount of games that can full be played is the big issue many games like Lego City Undercover can't be played off screen. Then some games can but aren't that good (ballon fight mini game on Nintendo land is a great example). Then some are great off screen and better than on screen (Ducktales and NSMB are good examples). But honestly You really can't rely exclusivly on this feature although it is still a great feature

Personally the reason I don't like it is that it makes them feel a lot like light gun games which I personal don't care for. Also the only way to play Wii games over WiFi is using a custom server unless you know another way.
MW reflex, MW 3, and Black Ops are still online for multiplayer. The only Wii call of duty game to use the gamespy servers was w@w, sadly that game is no long available as online multiplayer. I don't use the zapper when playing with the wiimote, I tried that and it sucks. I hold the wiimote in my right hand and the nunchuck in my left hand. I prefer that over a dual analog controller, and would play on a different console if that method were available since it seems that activision is no longer going to release call of duty games for the Wii U due to not enough sales of the Wii U ports of the game. The third party support for the Wii U is drying up, no more activision, no more ubisoft, and last but not least, no EA. If you like only Nintendo games without the third party games support then the Wii U is for you.

Also after the failed sonic experience I doubt Sega will help.

Nintendo never really had those games under its belt though, did it? I mean, it got some for sure, but it was never the hook or reliable or anything; if you wanted the best version of those shooter and sports games experiences, you went on other systems.

If you care for those games, the solution is just to get money and have multiple systems. *shrug*

As far as the GamePad goes, it's pretty useful, but like someone said, not always available. The quality also isn't HD, it's like a dimmer 480p, and of course the screen is tiny compared to a big TV, so yeah. I personally enjoy it since I can play in my room and there's the potential for playing mature games solely on it, but it's not like you can take it anywhere in your house and get a nearly identical experience to playing on the TV, it's more of an alternative back-up/bonus of sorts

That bundle deal in the OP is excellent. We've already got a WiiU - my daughter's Xmas present last year - but I'd probably jump on that for my own (I'll risk softmod/hack on my own stuff, not hers) if I weren't saving my money for something else.

In a nut shells Nintendo went to great 3rd part (news,SNES and n64) to crappy third party (gc and Wii) to no 3rd party.

That's a very good point. It's called "Off TV Play" after all, not "Remote Play". The best way to describe it is that you can use it when someone else is using the TV, meaning you'd still be in the vicinity of your TV (and Wii U).

Yeah, I can't think of any 3rd party games that aren't on the Wii U that I would care for. For example, I have no ambition to see or play Destiny on a Wii U.

There are a few great 3rd party gems on Wii u but the problem the PC/ps4/home versions are consider by far better and the best 3rd party games on Wii u are wii u exclusives

I think what attributes to that fact is that developers feel the Wii U GamePad creates enough overhead for them to delay/constrain development and that's a problem that Nintendo must address. However, it can go either way with the quality of 3rd party games. E.g. Need for Speed Most Wanted U is considered to be the best console version of the game, but it came almost half a year later to the Wii U. Watch_Dogs was also delayed for the Wii U, but also delivers a worse experience compared to other console versions.

Also the Creed game and arkham were good but buy the time they came out on wii u whoever was interested in them had already played them on other systems

It's very good for when you don't want to turn on the TV or such but not all Wii U games allow it.

Say you'd want to play Lego City Undercover on the GamePad? Yeah, no. You can't.
