I have to wonder about compression efficiency when you let standalone device to encode rather than computer to do it.

From what I heard Live Gamer Portable has good video quality, but I wonder about the file size.

It allows for 60 mbps max when captured through PC from what the reviewer says, 720 60 fps or 1080 at 30 fps (as if people need to upload 60 fps to YouTube). File size, he didn't say, but it uses MP4.

You mean maximum bitrate of encoded video file is 60 Mbps you say? That's very high for HD H.264 file. If it really encodes files with such high bitrate, the file will be humongous, close to H.264 in lossless format.

Right, but you don't have to record that high, you have the option to.

Might order it today. Once I get it, I'll post here on how good is it.
But does anyone know how long does it take to convert a vid in .TS format to a youtube compatible format?

Oh oh, and is this, like, genuine?
Cause all the avermedia live gamer portable copies have a red outline around the device.

EDIT:
Nvm, figured it out, the black outline is for those without the SD Slot. The red one has it.
But it's damn expensive. I guess I can't get this. ;-;

That link seems legit. An alternative for your purpose is the Game Capture HD II. It'll let oyu record to an HDD rather than an SD card: http://gamerzone.avermedia.com//game_capture/game_capture_hd_2

How long it takes to convert depends on a variety of factors like container, format, resolution, bitrate, anything added (if any), computer power, software used, etc. You'd have to do some benchmarking on your machine to know the answer to that. Video processing takes much more power than gaming

One major drawback from that it seems you have to remove the HDD and hook it up to the PC.

Isn't that the same with the portable one? You have to remove the SD right?

Well, I'm talking about an actual hard drive, not SD card; according to some of the reviews, there's no way to actually transfer the movie files aside from removing the device's HDD and somehow connecting it. I don't know all the details or much about PVRs.

Well. That's what the front USB-port is for? ;)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done

I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
