You can't update if you're blocking system updateso with tubehax or other means. You have to use WUP installer on your firmware.

Not that I can remember, no. That being said, as it was a team of people I imagine the work went a lot faster and was easier to keep track of in terms of timelines.

Probably because it does checks internally, and you'd have to patch those for out-of-region games to run.
