Hacking Wii U eMMC (nand) read/write? Read before flaming:-)

Worst case situation is not what you stated. It's what I stated. New console or new gamepad = money(lost of time and loss of content).
IMHO, there's is always one guy who like to yell "jump" when there is a person on a ledge.

Be smart everyone. All you have to do is look at the amount of broken Wii Us available because faulty hardware(or software) to know how fragile a system it is. I can guarantee you one thing without a doubt, There has never been, is not now nor will there ever be a time in the future that Nintendo will test the hardware and software for compatibility issues regarding downgrading software. You most likely will be on your own.

I'll take the incoherence of your post as a sign that you don't actually have a clue what you're talking about. There's practically no risk in flashing an older version of your NAND and eMMC so long as you have good backups.
 
If you read it raw then you have a backup. Nintendo is very anal and backwards with account management. I might be wrong but my Wii U made the purchases so if my current one dies then Iose what I bought. Is this correct?

From what I've seen, Nintendo Network IDs are tied to the console, which means yes, if it dies you're SOL unless you call Ninty and send a new one in. That also means that factory formatting will not remove it, if you format it and make a new account and link it to that NNID it'll still work.

Nintendo's really helpful with moving NNIDs between consoles if you call them, though. I've had a few friends do it in the last few months.

Hey everyone, I'm back with a bit of good news but also some bad.

First off starting with the good, after some serious Wii U withdrawals and not being able to afford a dead Wii U at the moment to salvage that cable out of, I decided to start playing around with my multimeter and experimenting by shorting out some of the points on the power connector to see if I could get the thing to breathe life again. Good news is, its fires on like it should :D. I found the necessary points to solder a switch to :). As I can't really justify dropping about $40 on a dead U just for one tiny cable anyways, I'm just going to hardwire a power switch in. I'm going to have to make a trip to "Ratshack" for some switches now. I'm also going to have to figure out what points to use for an "eject switch" but I digress. So the good news is my console is salvageable at a very low cost.

Now for the bad, something about the NAND dumper I built was not allowing the console to boot at all when I had it connected to my pc. Furthermore after the initial attempt to turn on the console (once connected ), it refused to come on thereafter even after unplugging the modified sd card adapter from the pc end ><. I played around with it for a while and nothing. Something isn't right with the wiring I did. Either that or I botched up a solder point or something. Anyways, that being said, I snipped off all the connections directly from the NAND/eMMC port and it boots up fine again (phew!).

First things first, I need to get this console fully operational again before I play around with the NAND any more. Also having a functioning Wii U will be very handy with it comes to working on Trinux (thank you captain obvious!)
That and I'm in desperate need of some Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4 :P.

Nope, nobody mentioned trying. There were some ideas but no follow through. It is risky but if you read through the thread you can see what was going to be tried.

Do you have any idea why you failed? I plan on documenting everything I do so if I am successful, I can make a guide.

He tore his "Eject/Power" ribbon cable, so he failed before he even started. You've gotta have steady hands when working with tiny electronics, PARTICULARLY consoles

Any word on the cable replacement? It really shouldn't be hard to attach a new ribbon cable...
I was able to boot up the console by shorting out certain points on the ribbon connector with my multimeter, but it refused to turn on until I removed the sd card dumper I made. Furthermore, because I tend to be careless with my own stuff, I've dropped the motherboard on the carpet more than once at this point XD. Its likely toast and between 2 jobs and school, I don't have the time to be testing every little portion of the board to find out if its salvageable.

I have a brand new Wii U now with an early firmware, came with 4.0.2 but Marionumber1 reached out to me last night needing a function address from 4.1.0 so I updated using my MK8 disc. He walked me through setting up the RPC client and getting what he was looking for. I don't plan on reattempting the NAND/eMMC dumper anytime soon with this one lol.

I think I just shorted something out/bad solder connection, hence why I couldn't dump anything or get it to turn on with the "dumper" connected.....

I still don't wanna play around with this one as it set me back another $300 (NSMBU + NSLBU bundle) lol. Sticking to software based stuff for now. If the Wiikey U ever sees the day of light, I will be setting that up as I have a 7 year old nephew who has a tendency to leave stuff lying around everywhere XD. If an IOSU exploit comes out and a software based loader beats an ODE to the punch, I will be cancelling my Wiikey preorder :P

That can easily be worked around with hardwired switches (see above post), problem is I'm careless when it comes to my own equipment and i've dropped the motherboard on the floor (my whole apt is carpeted) do the math lol. That's where I really messed up.... XD

Someone could try asking the Team Xecuter guys? they have experience with Nand stuffs.

I have my wii u taken apart. I would love to take a stab at this. Looking for a clear diagram.

No assigned drive letter on first try. De-soldered wires and wiiU is all good. Gonna keep my wiiU like this until I can get some more information.

I'm willing to share wiiU nand dump with the Devs if that means anything.
