Hardware Wii U does not recognize storage device

So, I recently got a hard-disk bay.
I wanted more storage for my Wii U, as I have the 8GB model.
But, surprise surprise, it does not work at all.
I have tried many different storage devices, ranging from USB's, to other hard-disks.
It never worked. Any ideas?

Hello,

If you want to have more storage with your wii U, you must format your hard drive in wii U format.

If you connect it to your computer afterwards, it will not be recognized by your computer (it will only be recognized by wii U)

Most hard drives will only work if they are connected with a Y cable or have their own power source.
