Without buying an adapter, anyone know if its possible to do this? I have a VGA connector lying around.

I tried soldering a female component cable to it but I can only get it to output green. based on info here, http://pinouts.ru/Video/Vga15_pinout.shtml i soldered the proper colors to the proper pins.

1 & 6 for Red
2 & 7 for Green
3 & 8 for Blue

Any tips other than just buy an adapter?

I am assuming that as you made it to the point in life where you are making up your own VGA adapter cables that you know DVI is basically HDMI without the sound and you can do things that way if you like (I think Nintendo even sorted it so you can not output sound and spare yourself the need to get an audio splitter for HDMI).

Crowbarring things into VGA all gets to be quite odd, not least of all because VGA is not always implemented the same between monitors -- your monitor (old TV perhaps?) may be sync on one of the other colours.

The original xbox had quite a bit on this, sadly the xbox linux wiki article that I would usually link is gone but it seems this http://home.comcast.net/~mattcam3/xbox_VGA.doc (warning MS word document link) seems to have most of the good stuff from there.

But a component cable does not have RGB Red, Green, Blue output (it has YCrCb Green, differential blue and differential red).

I think that hack may only works with the European Wii (or US Wii set work like an European Wii, for example using an European game). European Wiis have RGB output.

Or perhaps it also works with some monitor that accept YCrCb. But YCrCb (component) is not the same as RGB.

Must be why, didn't even realize this. Doh.

Thanks

Yes I am aware DVI and HDMI are essentially the same minus audio (I think DVI can reach higher res than HDMI, correct me if im wrong)

I'm trying to hook a Wii up to a PC monitor, it has VGA/DVI/Mini Display Port
