It'll update to your Wii's changed firmware now. As far as they can tell you now have an NTSC-U console. A bit different for the shop and stuff because of differences in the files, but likely if you get the NTSC-U channels even those should work fine.

I would guess they checked that, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.

Anyway have to say what a great tool again... Western Wii-Jpn owners must be jumping for joy.

does it work with D2CKEY?

i have:
JAP WII
D2CKEY
3.2J version
without wifi connection

how can i change my region without killing my modding....

just run the dol

it shouldnt fry your modding

it just changes a single flag in the nand.

ok, just found this comment of marcan on eltrolado

QUOTEthe region changer only changes setting.txt.

also it seems that marcan& bushing have collaborated with him bytelling him how to change the region option, in hope he would release this kind of tool

but according to marcan, a FULL region changer should:

* modify setting.txt to modify the region of the console
* install the menu of the corresponding system
* erase all the “internal” channels that correspond to a region and install the one corresponding of the other

it seems marcan regrets that waninkoko region changer only do 1/3 of the process, resulting in many semi-bricks (hopefully fixable with a system menu update)

it is really strange that changing the region only means changing one entry of setting.txt

and the big question: could this lead to much serious brick ?

I warned back on page 1 of this thread that the app was unsafe but, of course, all the warez kiddies around here wanted to disagree.

Here is a rough translation of what Marcan said on ElOtroLado...

http://wiinewz.com/forums/nintendo-news/70...on-changer.html

Since Waninkoko has released NUMEROUS apps that are considered un-safe, the Wiibrew devs will no longer be sharing information with him.

hmm, that's sad but understandable

I think everything would have been a lot more clearer if Wanninkoko had *explicitely" described what his tools were EXACTLY doing but also what they are NOT doing, instead of deliberately leaving some kind of mysteries floating around each release

well, technically, ALL hacks or modifications or a console are unsafe. i.e. HBC gets installed as a channel.. it might have caused damage on some wiis for some reason or another. modchips can go wrong, linux could by some freak occurance damage files, etc.
that's the risk anyone takes if they want to mess with stuff the system wasn't originally intended for.

I think HBC was tested during a quite long period to be sure he may not harm your wii, that's the difference between them and waninkoko I think

he is probably less responsible and want to release stuff to people as soon as possible, for whatever reasons

Furthermore, semibrick is fixed as soon as the menu of the system corresponding to the new region settles again or changing the region of the console the original one. It is not a indeed serious problem.
huh, I think it is.. not every people are aware that fixing the system menu will fix the semi brick...and not every people can have access to foreign games containing update
this is indeed a problem when you release something, you should prevent any kind of possible issues ... especially when you clearly know abou them

help!! just converted my modded jap wii to a PAL wii, but no games work. Is this because i need to update my modchip settings? How do i know what modchip i have? the wii was bought premodded a couple weeks ago i think it was from singapore. Should i randomly try different updaters?

your modchip is most likely set to japanese, so it tries to patch all games to JP, which of course means they don't work.
if you want to be sure what mod you have, open the console and look. not all chips or versions had a config disk at all, so if your chip is old, you might not be able to change the region without reflashing the chip externally.

Hmm... What I don't get is why the downgrader is needed. The settings pages are blocked? Like in a semi-brick? I wanted to change my menu to english with this (mine is a jap. console), but I don't have the internet connection the downgrade needs...

you dont need to downgrade. the setting pages are blocked, however, just change your wii back to japanese then your settings will work.

Could I just use WiiConfig in HBC without changing back to my wii's original region?

if u change ure region then downgrade and use duplicate channel remover for w/e region you have changed it to the semi brick goes away setting accesible ...ps: this is wat i did so i know thats how

Thanks for the reply.

Now some more Q's:

So would those dupe news & weather channels created by an NTSC-U SSBB work after a wii region change from
NTSC-J---->NTSC-U?

Regarding other eng US channels: so I would be able to download them from the US wii shop (provided that I have installed the US shop from wad)? Are other chans like US eng mii & photo are installed in the downgrading phase or not? If not, I would have to source from elsewhere?

Also after downgrading to fix the settings menu semi-brick, is it still possible to upgrade back to a higher FW if I wanted? eg. 3.3U?

Thanks.

you can go in any direction, up or down. no need to downgrade to fix the settings menu, just flash a firmware matching the new region setting.
