this is no fake, people are just crazy paranoiac these days and only frustrated not being able to get their hand on homebrew stuff immediately

As DsCios says "I think thats his username" He has a lot of other real life tasks to attend to. He really hated to have set a release date as he didn't know it would be in such high demand. It's coming out. Just hold your horses and check up on the original link every once in a while.

I was under the impression you could play most files on the Wii already, this was just a bit of a premium version with everything in it. With that in mind, it sounds good. But seriously, haven't you got a PC or a DVD player? Why would you even need this? Never mind being so impatient. Let the man take his time, it's just a side project. If you started a difficult project in your own free time and out of your own interest, I'm sure you'd hate all these people being so impatient expecting you to have no life.

I'm more in wanting of the new Homebrew Channel than anything right now. You hear so much of this WiiMiidia and we already have one that works perfect. The Homebrew Channel needs a large improvement. It doesn't do nearly as much as the Twilight Hack does.

You mean Wii MFE?

It plays files pretty well, but it's lacking a lot of customization.

Yeah Wii MFE. The test version is even better since you can change out the SD card for a different one. Wish it had a Letterbox setting or a way to turn on and off subtitles from mkv files. But those are my only 2 complaints. Will be nice to have one that doesn't REQUIRE the Twilight hack to run and will be it's own channel. But I read that with the MFE Player you can't read mkv files....is it possible??

Out of curiosity I just tested and episode of Genshiken, it worked though not at full frame rate (maybe half frame rate), File I tested contained both Japanese and English audio and had English subtitles, it directly started with the English audio, no subtitles.

File properties was :

By the way don't expect wiimiidia to be better than mfe in terms of video compatibility and speed since it will also use the mplayer as its video playing base too...

Still I think mplayer doesn't reflect the wii's true potential.

I'd never heard of .mkv before this morning. Wish everyone would just stick to DivX, or just one good codec. I spent hours looking for the codec and info on how to play it before I could watch one 45-minute episode of Doctor Who. Codecs annoy the hell out of me.

An mkv is just a file container for both the video and audio, not a video codec, it could still include xvid or divx for the video portion. MKV is far superior to avi container though.

Yeah, I prefer to watch any kind of anime or import video in an mkv because they usually contain multiple subtitle tracks that are encoded into the mkv file, but not hardcoded to the video so they can be turned on or off like a DVD.

Edit for Trolly* Try using VLC Media player for PC based viewing, it has most common codecs available built right in. That way you wont have to search for a certain one, or download one of the horrible codec packs that are available.

Dude, why not use something like VLC or MPlayer that has all the codecs you need built-in?

LOL MaHe, you added it as I was typing it. But yes, VLC or.... MPlayer will work. I sometimes get frustrated with MPlayer because they don't do bug-fixes quite as often. Nothing sucks more then to download a movie, only to have it be in some strange format you've never heard of.... and have MPlayer crash when you go to play it. VLC even plays broken AVI files, or incomplete, it just removes the seeking functions. Both are a good choice!

I don't think he was ever working on it. Anyone who can't produce even a alpha release after months is full of shit. And he keeps bitching about needing help then refuses to release any source code. He wont make a video of it working, all we have are "screenshots" which he later claimed were just created as a visual representation of what he wanted it to look like.

Ah, someone should ask him or something. Though at the end of the say, I don't really need WiiMiidia, there's plenty of other ways of playing videos on TVs.

And everyone corrected me on my mistake there it seems. In the end, I downloaded a Codec pack, and it's been totally fine for me so far except my DivX Converter's not working (though I don't really need it). Anyway, I wouldn't want a bunch of players on my system, and there's bound to be something that doesn't work on VLC Player either. It isn't as nice-looking as WMP either lol.
All these video thingies (codecs, containers, and video-related compression) are just annoying. I mean, why have so many people decided to make new codecs and containers? Why can't we just stick to one? There have to be at least 50 different types of video, and at least 30 types of audio...
Probably more.

I think it would be nice if it would work. I mean... I don't have a dvd player. Everything i watch on tv is played from pc. Which isn't fun when the pc is busy doing stuff.

I really would like to watch movies with my sd-card, because I hate to burn a dvd just for a new episode of a series or something like that...

And if the Wii is capable of doing this and someone is willing towork on it and release a application, which might be able to provide those abilities I would be happy...

So there might be people who would think a miidia center like the one on the XBox could be very handy...
