I recently had a problem with my wii hdd. I attempted to recover it, but four or five games now have these .tmp files in their folders on top of the wbfs file. what should I do here? thanks!

I think the extension may actually be .tmp . I also have files named wbf1 - are those for games over 4GBs? I read that they were, but with the tmp files, I don't know. @Cyan or anyone?

which size are your tmp files? if they looks like they can be the same size than your game, rename to wbfs and perform a verification with Wii backup manager.
maybe chkdsk found data without filename reference so it created a temporary file by giving it a filename, or maybe the file is corrupted and not complete.
I think renaming and verifying it is a good start.

the wii usbloaders uses the wbfX extension. (wii backup file system)
not necessarilly at 4GB, but it's usually the case for FAT32.
you can split at 1GB, and you'll have wbfs wbf1 wbf2 wbf3 etc.
so, usually with 4gb it's wbfs and wbf1 only.

@Cyan , the sizes vary, and some games have multiple of them. how do I verify with wii backup manager? the sha-1?

edit: if so, does this also scan split files?

thanks.

as long as the games are named .wbf(s/1/2), and in the usual location, then WiiBackupManager should detect the games.

When loading the partition, it should already proide some information, like game's title, size, partition type (UGO: update, game, other).
if it fails to do that, then it's no used to verify with Sha1.
if it seems the game is detected correctly, then just check the checkbox in front of the games you want to verify with sha1 and see the result.

Maybe it's best to not trust these files and just get/dump the full game again.

I've had it running the verify thing for about four hours. I'm trying to verify all games at once. so far each game has been green but one. that one - the title is shown in blue. it's one of them with tmp files and also split. it being split - is that the reason why it's blue?

@GreyWolf , I don't believe I used chkdsk. I used testdisk to recover a lost partition.

I have over 300 games (900 or so if you count emuNAND stuff(, so it would take forever to redownload everything. this was after a mistake with ustealth. :(

would I only need to redownload the games in folders with tmp files or could those tmp files be from a another game despite being in another folder?

@Cyan , @GreyWolf , how does this verification thing work with wii backup manager? do wbfs contain a sha-1 somewhere? and, will it post different results if the game is split? is it designed to check the checksum of a split game? so far, only one game has shown up blue, and it's split.

The SHA1 hash is for the partitions. I think if it shows green then the game partition is good. WIT will actually tell you "OK" for each partition so I usually use it.

Splitting it doesn't matter. It just keeps reading from the second file as if it was the same one.

what if the game comes out as blue?

the sha1 is part of the tmd, it has checksum for all used files. Each internal file is verified one by one.

blue is probably in the list.
you need to check (the checkbox) in front of the game you want to verify, then go to game's option > other > sha1 (or something like that).
it will run a verification of internal ISO files, and will display the result on the right side (green or red), and in the log tab.

@GreyWolf , that's when I was verifying the game. it's no longer blue though.

@Cyan , I now have 7 games that are red. does that mean the wbfs is bad? btw, these are already converted to wbfs. I'm just running a verification scan to make sure that they're okay after that fiasco with the hdd corrupting.

edit: btw, are wbfs files created by wii backup manager scrubbed?

Yeah, red means the hash verification failed.

WBFS is sparse. It does not include unused areas of the disc whether it's a file or partition. There are two sections on Wii and GC discs: a system area that only the console can access and a user area where the game data is located. The dol file for the title is located in the system area, but AFAIK there's no way to verify that part of the disc. I don't think it has a checksum.

could the tmp files be chunks of other files, thus causing the hash to be incorrect? I mean they're in unrelated game folders.
