Hi. So yesterday I was playing online MKW custom tracks on CTGP when I suddenly got the "An error has occurred. Press the eject button and remove the disc then turn the Wii console off." screen mid-race.
I did the usual, took the disc out, cleaned it with with some micro-fiber cloth and alcohol and put the thing back to see if it worked, it didn't so I thought my disc was dead after those good 10 years. I decided to try some of my other official Nintendo discs just to double check whether it was the disc or the lens, I got some weird results.
This is my list of games: Mario Kart Wii, Namco Museum Megamix, Trauma Center Second Option, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, Wii Sports, Wii Party, Wii Fit Plus and Game Party.
All of them didn't work with just one exception, some games (namely Mario Kart Wii, Trauma Center, Sonic Riders, Wii Party and Wii Fit Plus) would show their normal cover in the Disc Channel before crashing the moment you opened them and others (namely Namco Museum, Wii Sports and Game Party) would crash the console as soon as you put the disc in. Bakugan Battle Brawlers seems to be the only one working as usual, I played some of it to check it didn't crash mid-game (and to revive some childhood memories) and it was fine.
Something that really caught my attention was that when I first tried Wii Party, the icon that usually appears in the disc channel changed to a white Wii with the text "Wii system update", I clicked and it actually told me to update something in the console, it didn't specify whether it was a firmware update or not, but I did it anyways hoping that could be the fix to the problem (which it didn't, hence I am posting this), the icon did not appear the second time I put the disc in, even weirder is that the disc actually opened the game, however, when creating a save file at the start it crashed once again.
I haven't tried to clean the lens as I do not own a cleaning kit and I want to see what you guys may suggest. Thanks.
