The points look close together, a no solder would be nice. Something like the Matrix.
I Believe you are talking about the "UTS" serial port shown with the "Insert Modchip Here" text below it.
That picture was taken from a Gamecube and does not represent the connector for the Wii "UTS" serial port. I have not yet seen a picture of the Wii serial port, can anyone point one out?

The GC had no non-solder modchips available. There was a no wire solder connected modchip, the Xeno GC. To be honest I (and others) found it much easier to install by soldering wires to the contacts. It wouldn't have been too difficult to manufacture a no solder connection for a GC modchip (the second gen drive firmware foolin' kind) but I guess it wasn't popular enough for anyone to bother making one.

That video was great, far more hilarious than I anticipated. It looked like he went on to talk about the PS3 but I can't seem to find the rest of his presentation. Is there a full version somewhere?

I don't think Nintendo could ban you from WiiConnect24 because you have enabled your Wii to play backups. Isn't there nothing illegal about that?
OF COURSE NOT!!!!!
Nintendo want you to download all there games instead of buying them!!

Um, well, modifying your console is breaking at least twenty clauses in the End licence user agreement (which you agreed to when buying a Wii), violates several intellectual property laws, and, oddly enough, is in violation of fire safety ordinances of most countries. Nintendo can go LikSang on your ass for it, and simply refusing to provide a service you never actually paid for, is letting you off very lightly.

i saw this vid yesterday and i thought it was highly funny that nintendo changed the dvd drive password from higher case to lower case

it's almost as if they really didnt care about protecting the wii whatsoever lol

thank you shaunj! We all now know that to have a mod chip for Wii, it will involve replacing this chip.

Now people, think realistically. Sure we all want to jam a modchip into our Wiis, but will it actually FIT? The console itself is SMALL! Not like the GCN where there were two fans, one in one out, and a huge open space for heat, but instead Wii has the PCBs stacked. I will wait for a softmod, unless like for the DS all you have to do is bridge a tiny connection while you have a Wii disc that works as a passme that reads from the SD slot, USB port, or GCN memory slot. Then i will hardmod. And pray to god nintendo doesn't update.

BTW: when you receive an update via wiiconnect24, where does it write to?

The psp is even smaller and there is a mochip, i am sure they will find a way around either a modchip or better just an exploit.
