My Wii has been soft modded for many years. I tried downloading covers for some games and found out my internet settings are somehow messed up. When I try to access the Wii Settings menu, I get a black screen, I've tried installing Modmii, but that keeps failing over and over. I was hoping there was some offline method to get this fixed or re-modded. I also tried the D2X0cIOS installer, but that also fails with Net-init failed so not sure what options I have. I'm at 4.3 and have been for a very long time. All the homebrew apps still load, it's just the settings/internet aspect that's jacked right now.

Thanks,
Jeff

When you say that you tried to install ModMii, you mean BootMii, right?

I believe reinstalling the system menu could help (that fixed my issue when I the same thing happened to me), although doing so is extremely risky without BootMii.

If you're unable to do so, I believe ModMii can download the cIOS that you need onto your PC, which can then be installed with a WAD manager of your choice. However, I have never used the tool, so, maybe someone more enlightened than I would know.

Reminder: BootMii = NAND backup/restore tool and brick protection

ModMii = Multi-purpose Wii modding tool for Windows

Unfortunately, Modmii fails to install and I've tried everything. So basically I need an offline kind of method to see if I can "reset" the system menu. I installed a "Zelda" theme a long time ago so I'm guessing that was the cause of my current dilemma.

More information on the ModMii installation issues would be helpful. Saying you tried everything is not helpful and definitely not true. For example, did you try just unzipping modmii? You don't NEED to run the installer, just extract it and run it, you will just be missing shortcuts but otherwise it will work fine

Bootmii is only really brick protection if you have it as boot2.

As ios alone the closest is to install Priiloader and not touch the system menu and the relevant ios.

When I try to run the modmii installer, I keep getting failed, check your firewall, etc. I disable everything and I still can't get it to install. Sorry I wasn't more clear on that point.

When I run the Settings Editor GUI, I select Exit to Internet Settings. I get a black screen for a couple of seconds and it goes back to the Homebrew menu.

You're running the latest installer right? Here's the link http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/project/modmii/ModMii Installer.exe

What happens if u download the zip file and extract it manually
https://sourceforge.net/projects/modmii/files/ModMii6.5.1.zip/download

Ok, the extracted modmii actually got me to a menu. I'm not very knowledgeable with this app. What's the best course of action I should take for my situation? Thank you for all your help, it's very much appreciated!

Yes, but modmii may recommend you start and finish on the same firmware, in which case it won't have u install a new system menu (which I hope will solve your problems). So if you are starting on 4.1, pick 4.2, otherwise pick 4.1. Doesn't really matter so long as u pick 2 dif numbers.

Very important, make sure u reinstall priiloader immediately after installing wads (including the SM) because at this stage your current priiloader is gone. Do so before exiting the HBC just in case.

No harm in repeating all the steps, but the first step will call for an exploit to launch the hackmii installer and if you happen to have the Homebrew Channel installed already, you can use an old version of the HBC to launch the new hackmii installer

And obv follow the complete guide carefully, it will tell u to make a nand backup, etc, all easy stuff you should be fine

Ok, since I'm on 4.3, I should pick 4.1? I just want to make sure I understand as I don't want to wreck the system. :-) I went thorugh the modmii wizard but I chose 4.3 when creating the files. Should I delete those and rerun it with 4.1 selected and then follow your video guide step by step?

Delete everything in the Copy_to_sd folder or whatever you changed it to. Then choose 4.1, or 4.2, just not 4.3

Keep everything in the "temp" folder. Things will go much more quickly the second time you do things with modmii the more full your temp folder gets

Edit:
Alternatively you could just add the 4.1SM wad for your region to your current WADs folder and you'd be good to go, just 1 more wad to install really (provided you didn't choose to install a theme, in which case you should not proceed to install a theme with mymenuify for a dif SM than just installed). You can get the WAD manually on one of Modmii Classic's download pages. But honestly I would just go with what I said originally just so you don't have to deviate at all from your custom generated guide.

I recreated the files as 4.1. I've backed up my SD card from before because of everything I had on their the first time around. I've now placed the files on my SD and placed it in the Wii. I'll try to run through this later tonight time permitting. I'm a little nervous. The funny irony to me is I've been in the IT field for over 30 years :-)

since you say you're in IT, If you want to really laugh, open modmii.bat in notepad and have a quick scroll, lol, how nuts was I to do all that in regular notepad, I've since graduated to notepad++

um, that is insane. I can't even fathom how long it took you put this together.

ok, I turned on the Wii and went to the messageboard but no letter for yesterday. I went back a week too. Did I miss an obvious step?

I ran the hackmii installer, then the IOS236 and finally the priiloader. Everything completed success fully, but my Wii options menu is still black. Is there another step I need to perform perhaps?

What about the install WADs step? You should not be skipping any steps (did you make a nand backup too)?

Yes did the WAD install and that went fine. I didn't make the NAND backup so I guess I could go back and do that.
